cleaning towels
Okay I looked over in my garage and my pile of towels that I use for waxing and cleaning has gotten pretty big. What does everyone do with theirs? Just throw them in the washing machine or the garbage?

Ok Guys
Let me explain, I do my own laundry, that includes the towels I use on my truck, when I was younger my mom always used softener on all the towels and clothes and the towels would never absorb water very well, I don`t use any softener on any of my towels and they dry better. try it, take a couple of towels and wash them without softener, it takes about 4 washings for all the softener to be removed from a towel. try it - it works.
Larry.

I just learned how to use a washing machine a few months ago.
Maybe one day I'll wash those towels, at least I got a few more clean ones
from zainos website:
Also, when washing your towels, please do not use any type of fabric softeners. Always use White towels. Do not use Colored Towels they contain dyes.
i also remember hearing no bleach and air dry them
no dryers.

Guys should ask questions like this on General Care since I hardly come here since I do not own an L. I'm a professional detail so I do a lot of towel washing.
I have a lot of loads. I do a load of drying towels, a load of buffing towels (for buffing off wax residue and polish), a load of Microfiber towels (the only way for streak free windows besides newspaper), a load of interior towels, and a load of grime towels (ones I use for tire buffing, wheel wells, underbody, engine, you know, all the dirty jobs.
And you wanna know what I use for all of them? DAWN dish detergent! Cuts through wax and grease like no bodies business!
For wax pad cleaning I only use hot water. I'm worried dawn residue will stay int he wax pad and I don't wanna take the risk.
I tumble dry all my towels except for the microfiber which I hang dry.
Two reasons you don't use softener. One, it will streak the paint when you dry with it and Two, (this tip expecially for microfiber) softener will leave residue in your towels and will reduce the amount of residue they can hold as well as the amount of water. For microfiber it will reduce their cleaning ability.
Also, don't use bleach because it reduces the life of your towels as well as it will strip color out of them and it might turn white towels an off yellow.
Drying towels in the dryer will shorten their life. Some people also say the dryer holds a lot of dirt in it that gets on your towels. That is true but my house would be humid as hell and filled with hanging towels if I didn't use a dryer.
