Dyno Results

For my mods, I guess I did alright. Horsepower was 369, torque was 438. My air/fuel ratio was a little on the rich side but I asked for a conservative chip (J-69) when I ordered it.

I might have to get more agressive with the air fuel, add more boost, and go with an oval throttle body. At least that's what the dyno tuner suggested. He thought I was making great horsepower but compared to some of you I ain't making chit!:mad

I was hoping to join the 400/500 club but it wasn't meant to be. Get this, It made 503 torque in the tow mode (J-49) but only 353 horsepower with a much richer air/fuel ratio.

What's it gonna take to get into the Elite 400/500 club? Opinions welcomed.

Tim

I dynoed with your mods(4#,plugs,BB,etc..) JDM J-69 program. The only difference was I only have the S.B. cat-back any you have the full meal deal.
393 rwhp-495-rwtq
I just put a 6# on.Have not dynoed yet,but should put me in 4/5 club. You already have the interchangeable set-up.One call to JDM or JJ and the 6 could be on its way.

Vinnie,

Are your numbers SAE corrected? If so, I can't see why we didn't dyno closer to each other if we had the same mods. Mine was dyno'd on a Dynojet 248 with an SAE correction factor of 1.02, it was 81.8 degrees with the barometric pressure 29.35, while accelerating from 3600 to 5800 RPM's.

24 hp and 57 pounds of torque is quite a spread with the same mods. Don't get me wrong, I'm not doubting your word, I'm trying to find more power. Any ideas why the difference?

Tim

You need a more aggresive tune. With the J-69 program I made 401/496 with the mods below (except the mufflers). Oh, and nice cool air REALLY helps.

Fan kit and TB would probably do it along with a slightly more aggressive program. What was your a/f once you got into it, btw? I got 411 RWHP and 494 lbs/ft with:

JDM cold air kit
AFM Power Pipe
BA Bolt throttle body
JDM Fan Kit
Cobra R water pump
4# lower pulley
Bassani Exhaust (full)

I would expect you to be seeing better with those long tubes, that's for sure. Don't go too wild with the a/f though, it's a good idea to keep the engine in one piece...

Air fuel is slightly rich, would you say?

Tim,

Here are the results of my first dyno run. This past saturday(25th):

Thats on a 99, with the following mods:

JL Intake, 90MM MAF, FRP Single Blade TB, 1# upper, 4# lower, electric fan and cobra R pump, JDM Full Exhaust setup, Precision Converter, NGK TR-5's, Line Mod Valve, 4x4 pan & Filter, JDM Traction Bars.

Note: The truck still has the 99 (smaller) intercooler.

Something was botched on the first run, so ignore that one....

Tim,

Yes that is S.A.E. corrected on a WINPEP DYNOJET.It was in march at about 55 degrees.
The big difference I see is the weather. My conditions were better then yours.
Probaly the JDM tune also.No flame just maybe more aggressive.
while accelerating from 3600 to 5800 RPM's.
WOW 5800 RPMs.Mine never went past 5500 as per Jim@JDM.
I am sure there is more power to be had.

Brian K,

It appears that your air/fuel ratios start out super lean and at about 3500 rpm's drop to the range mine is in ALL the time. Am I right, seeing what I think I see? That might be my problem.

Tim,

I would say its in your tune man. Just like I said before when you had your 1/8th mile time post. Dont let it get you down, just get a more aggressive program. You can get the 400/500 club for sure... Awhile back I had 392/487 with only a chip, filter, 3lb lower, & plugs. Its all in the tune!!!

Richard,

Look at my air/fuel ratios and tell me what you think comparing mine to Brian K's.

Also, I'm shifting at about 5800 rpm's. What rpm's is yours shifting at? 5800 seems high to me.

Your A/F is alittle high. Mine was around 11.2 on my pulls. 5800 is alittle to high to me as well. My truck has always shifted about 5600 and my rev limiter was set around 6000 I think. Have you thought of a dyno tune? I have not used a JDM chip before but I am sure it could be done easy as well. You may even be able to ride to MD to get it done....

You might want it a SMIDGE leaner, but not too much... low 12's is good for a/f. I can't see Brian's in that graph, not very accurately, anyway. Brian, what was your a/f once the pedal was on the floor?

Jayman,

Let me see if I understand what I think I do about air/fuel ratios. The higher the number, the leaner the mixture? Like 12 parts air to 1 part fuel. So, a reading of 11 is richer that a reading of 12? That's the way it was explained to me today, is this correct?

Hey, I'm learning

Tim
