MikeO,
What Are you talking about? Of course Ford is in to make money but if they call it a Limited Edition Truck, then lets make it that. It doesn't feel so Limited when there is 50,000 of them. No one wants to be EXCLUSIVE like your saying. A house and a truck are two different things. My neighbors house doesn't look like mine, does it? I would never of bought my house if its identical to everyone elses on my block.

Again, 12,000 LIMITED EDITION cobras next year. ONLY 4000 L's. Sounds limited to me. Keep in mind, someone who would buy a vehicle just like yours, is probably a lot like YOU!! Share, compare, learn, and teach with other owners about these bad ****'s from FOMOCO.

Very good point Mike, but I have to admit that I've been seeing more and more L's lately. I realize that they are becoming a lot more popular and I thinnk their popularity is just going to keep growing. What I'm waiting on is other comapanies to catch on to the sport truck craze, and to come out with their version. Adding competition is just going to make the future Lightning's better and better. I think Dodge has figured this out, now lets just wait and see what their going to do. Anyone here the latest news from Dodge about the Viper truck? Any rumors on if they will release it for '03? I'm still a Ford guy, but at the moment this is the only possible competition for the Lightning in the future.

I heard that Dodge hired Ferrari to design and build their 2004 truck. Supposedly, it'll have 5 billion HP, 60 inch wheels, do 0 - 60 in several nanoseconds, and be able to stop on a dime (literally). The reports claim that it'll stop from Mach 82 in about 3/4 of an inch. And because it gets incredible fuel mileage, you'll be able to use that dime for 3 months of fuel. They're having trouble with the seat belt design though, so the project may be delayed. The only solid and confirmed news is that red will be one of the colors.

Of course, Ford may respond by releasing their secret ZX8 project which has roots in the propulsion system they used in the 1980's for tanks they made for the government. But until an act of Congress releases the top secret documents, the only solid and confirmed fact is that red will be one of the colors.

hmmmm

If they make one better, I will be p!$$ed 'cause I can't get another one yet. If they make yellow I will cry. If they add some interior colors to the line up, it will make my day. I like my 01 and no matter what they do, I'm keeping it for a while. Wish they would just fix the clunk and door cracks and head gasket leaks and put in GOOD speakers and make the rear even in height with the front and put in real leather seats, not just inserts and 4.10 rear blah blah blah all for the new guys. But if they don't, oh well.

no fighting please. If I want that I'll go back to the "other" Lightning forum. I like this one.
Don

That is so ridiculous everytime someone says to quit making a vehicle!
No It is NOT ridiculous for saying that. OfCourse it won't happen but, when I first spotted the Lightning it was said to be more exclusive yadayadayada then others. Like I said it's not too rare in my area. By exclusive i don't mean that only some can have or one has to be special, I mean that there are so many now one doesn't feel that the "exclusive" item bought is exclusive . Especially with the new Harley, same engine(basically). Essentially thats what I payed for , not the cladding or bumper. Have to live with it.
BTW, were not talking about Cobras or european cars.

Really spike? I heard Dodge hired McLaren, and that they are using the same design that they have on the F1 LM. I heard that it will have 5 trillion HP and have 160inch wheels. But your right about the Ford's ZX8, but what you didn't hear is that they are working on a ZX9 right now in Area 51. As you might have thought they have it under strict lock and key. Oh and one more thing that might please you, is that they've fixed the brake pad issue on the ZX9.

Sure - we'll bring all three dogs! Because of last minute changes, we'll be in town this weekend. I told my wife about your race at Sears Point and her eyes bugged out when I mentioned the 135 mph blast and braking into turn 11 (??). She also laughed when I told her about running out of gas (twice!).

Buhahahahaha, man you're a funny guy. Hey, I said I wish they would stop making the L for exclusivity. Thats it. Yea I have the rims , so what? There are other rims that look like them but, these just happen to come by really cheap. Ofcourse the rims are from a Harley, those were and are bad-a** trucks. Just I IMO , didn't like the fact that they put the same engine in. Now that I think about it, I see less Harleys than Lightnings. If they keep making them ,GOOD, keep making their pockets fatter and tuners now have something else to work with. IMO I feel I have lost the exclusive feeling I once had in my L.
(Drum roll. funny.)

So back to the topic, I WISH THEY WOULD STOP MAKING THE L FOR 2003.

I posted the same on this topic twice and multiple times in the past.

The first time I knew the Lightning was no longer exclusive was when I drove to Home Depot one day and saw THREE in the parking lot.

I drove there the same week with my wife but in her truck, a F250 superduty, dual cab, etc.....

Her truck was the ONLY F250 or F350 on the lot and she pointed it out to me.

Here's the original thread from July, 2001.

By the way, if you're wondering, I didn't put a 6 speed in the L, instead I sold it.
