Lightning Tuner????
So here is the big question With the mods I have and I am not planning on anything else maybe t/b. I have 13,000 miles on it do not race it on track just some ricer squashing. Should I even bother with replacing the stock plugs or just wait untill time for regular plug change to do it?????????
my 2 cents
alot of contemplating had me going nuts. I decided to check to see if i had any loose plugs and change them while i was at it. I am bone stock and had under 5k miles at the time. Re read what was said. The tr5 is a stock heat range plug. There are diferences of opinion on this but stock heat range is gut up to +2lbs of boost(this is what i gathered from the board, if im wrong please correct me). The TR6's gapped at .40(this is also debated) is recommended for 2-6 pounds of additional boost. The BR7's or Densos especially are recommended with anything over 4 pounds, but almost madatory of 6. I think survey says go with the tr6's.
I assume the tuners may have varying opinions on what plug for what use. I used the TR5s as JDM had suggested with a chip, filter and 4 lb pulley and ran consistent 13.2s at 102 MPH. Then I put the full meal JDM headers, cats and exhaust and went backwards..... 13.3s at 101MPH.
I called Sal since I use his chip and asked for help. He first said the same thing he said here.... he does not reccomend the TR5s. So I asked him what he reccomended with my set up? He already posted you the answer on this one.... BR7s or IT20s.
He knows his stuff ...... put the IT20s in and went to the track and run 12.8s........ the plugs cut .4 off my time.
Dan and Rusty were there..... I had a grin so big Dan wrote some comments on the board about it.
Sal steered me in the right direction..... Thanks Sal!

on a stock setup leave the stock plugs! i swapped to the tr6s before i ever changed my pulley and i couldnt tell a bit of difference. i mean after all the stock plugs are triple platinum plugs and tr6s are double platnum (i believe). yes i can vouch for the grin on masterloggies face that night and im sure he can say the same for mine i ran my best that night in signature. imo, unless u will change a pulley stay with stock plugs and if u change any pulley change the plugs to your correct application. i ran tr6s with 3 lb then swapped to densos for the 6. hope this helps.

At 13,000 I personally would not, and did not bother. I have 18k now and a few mods on, and a few mods on the way. I am starting to notice a little skip at idle. That could also be because I go out to sea for 4-6 months at a time leaving the L like a beaten step child. I will install my TR5's within the hour. If you want you can email me for a before and after plug comparo!!

No need to change the stock ones yet. I ran mine until 18,500 miles with no problems. They helped me get into the high 12s(3 lb pulley) at the track. I went to the colder BR7EFs when running a 5 lb pulley because of fear of detonation. These are 'too' cold for my use. They misfire at low rpm but are fine for track use.
