F1's and snow...welcome to New England!!!!

Last week i took the sand out of the bed and took my winter wheels/tires off....it hasn't snowed here much all winter and i figured winter has passed. WRONG!!! 4 inches of wet heavy snow fell while i was at work and the roads were not plowed. Let me just tell ya.....driving this truck with the f1's in the snow is like drivig a boat!!! Barely touching the gass and still is was horrible. Drove two miles around to get to my house so i didn't have to go up my hill..would have never made it. It's my fault ,i should have know better. Even took my snow brush out!!!! Take it from me....300lbs and michelin alpine II tires make the lightning a very drivable truck in the snow. An empty bed and f1's make it a damaged lightning waiting to happen. Plus the front valance make a horse **** snow plow

over in michigan all winter i've found that heavy snow and f-1's is no big deal, but only about two inches or so with ice and tallimeca is right, with just the right brushing of snow this monster will skid at idle,, and yes i am serious, i once stopped at a stop sign this year, let my foot off the brake with no gas yet,, and boom,,, truck skidded just started to go sideways.

the truck has run fine in deaper or plowed snow though, as long as you are used to driving in snow that is.

She's definately not a snow beast though,

what?

dude, you can't seriously go over 15-20 miles an hour safely in this vehicle in the snow with f1's..especially in stop and go traffic in the city with the roads covered in slush......you and I's definition of fine must be two different things........because fine doesn't entail having to stop and put it in reverse twice to try to get over a speed bump......even when keeping it second so it won't shift.......

You guys are braver than me, takin your truck out in the snow. It doesn't mater if you got the lastest snow tires or high tech ballast in the bed. A idiot driving like a ...well idiot.... will crash into your perect winter driver and then your wishing you had one of these

When I got my truck last yearit snowed a few days after I got it. The next day I went to work, the parking lot has a very very small angle to it. When I tried to leave all I did was spin on the plowed parking lot. I had to throw ice melt uder the tires. It took me 30 minutes to get out of the parking lot.

F 1s in snow HA! I use my L to pull my snowmobiles. Just around town though, I have a beefy 4x4 ford to pull them to the good areas to ride. But I have driven worse rides in the snow. Just last weekend we got about 30 inches of snow while I was out of town with the L. It was a shocker when I got back only some of the roads were plowed and none of the neighborhoods I could not drive home. I had to leave the L at the hospital were I work for 4 days. I do have pics of my L pulling my sleds but can't seem post it oh well.

My G/F works in Nashua (I tried to talk her out of it) it took her three hours to get home that day!

Just like Chikenears said hehe. I dont even take her out in the rain. Forget the snow. I say instead of spending money on winter tires spend that on a winter beater. I just dont know how anyone can drive the truck in the snow makes me cringie just thinking about it.

welcome to taxachusetts

i don't know about elsewhere, but insurance here is high. I'm paying about 2200 a year (full insurance because it's financed-mandatory). It would cost me more a year to register and insure a beater than to buy one!! My L is expensive enough. Luckily i only have to cost down the hill to work so i don't have to go far. I could walk if needed. I don't drive my L in the snow unless the situation occurs like it did the other day.....snowed while i was at work, wasnt' supposed to till at night. Boo to that.

Hey whip.....you may want to stay on the boat for another month. All those 60 degee days have disappeared and it's cold as a witch's ....... haha. Cold air make power...hehe.

P.S. ......i looked really cool trying to leave my parking lot when i was stuck on that speed bump......

Question

Guess that's why Ford put that big warning label on the door jamb.

I think that warning label is for fools who don't know how to drive. Around here it don't matter what people drive they will still end up in the ditch stuck on a strait section of road.

i still have no idea how snow ,not even 20 miles away, has different effects on the same tires. Of course u can't be romping on it but it is possible and safe to drive in a few inches with no problems. i don't live in the city but i'm willing to bet that u would have BETTER conditions to drive in. i have never gotten suck at all. Maybe i just got a "snow package" on mine or something.
