Actual drop "poll" for reference

-------------------------------------------------
This is the measurement I'm interested in...
rear measurement:

front measurement:

As of 10March2002
current Baseline Front: 18.98" / Rear: 20.06"
Front: drop / Rear: drop
(Boostin01L) Stock: 0 / Stock: 0
(SVT_KY) Stock: 0 / Stock: 0
(Neal W) Stock: 0 / Stock: 0
(lxtac) Stock: 0.0625 / Stock: 0.25
(SLVRLTNG) Stock: 0 / 2" Belltech shackles: -2
(SILVERLIGHTNING) Stock: 0 / 2" Belltech shackles: -1
(FlashSVT) Stock: 0.25 / 2" Belltech shackles: -0.75 (see note 1)
(DB) Stock: -0.5 / 2" AIM Shackles: -1.5 (see note 2)
(Streetking) Western Chassis 3" hanger & cut coil: -3.75 / 4" Belltech kit (shackles and hangers): -4.25
(DJY1) Belltech 3" coils + Western Chassis 2" A-arms: -4 / 4" Belltech kit (shackles and hangers): -4.5
(Struck by Lightning) Eiback 1" coils: -2 / 2" Belltech shackles: -1.25
(Struck in AZ) Eiback 1" coils: -2 / 2" Belltech shackles: -1.25
(Z28KLR) Ground Force 2" coils: -1 / DJM 2" shackles: -1
(JeffsLightning) Ground Force 2" coils: -1.5 / Comp. springs & FRPP shackles: -2
(Ebbsnflows) Ground Force 2" coils: -3 / FRPP shackles: -1.67
(CaptainOblivious) Hotchkis coils: -1.25 / Hotchkis springs: -1.75
(Silver-Bolt) Hotchkis coils: -1.5 / Hotchkis springs: -1.75
(HIHOAG) Hotchkis coils: -0.625 / Hotchkis springs: -1.625
(Spike) Spike Hotchkis coils: -1.5 / Spike Hotchkis springs: -3
(Ruslow) Ruslow coils: -1.5 / Ruslow Slider: -1.5

Notes
1. Both measurements where 1/4" above ave.
2. Coils and springs 23 months old. If fronts and rears didn't sag, then both measurements assumed 1/2" off to give 19 and 18.
-------------------------------------------------

I'm interested in find out what comparable drop heights are so there is a good reference for different drop kits and suspension systems.

Measure from the centerline of the wheel up (plumb) to the fender lip. Any other measurement doesn't count. 1/4" accuracy is good enough.

If you have a new or used stock Lightning, those measurements are helpful for a baseline.

Please note:
Manufacture and front drop type / Manufacture and rear drop type
Listed front drop/Listed rear drop
measure front/measured rear
Front spring age/Rear spring age (months)
(tire and wheel sizes don't matter)

Here are mine:

Hotchkis Coil / Hotchkis Spring
1 / 2
17.5" / 17.0"
8 months / 8 months

Thanks!

Spike

If I ever get my truck back I will be able to give you a comparison between the Hotchkis and the Roush front spring. Since the Roush will be replacing the Hotchkiss on the same truck, it will be a good comparison. After all no 2 trucks are exactly alike.

Y2K-L 19 front,19rear.Belltech 6400 2" drop shackles actually netted a rear drop of 1-1/2". Worked out just right. Fred.

So your measurement (stock) was 20.5," 1/2" higher than the other two stock Lightnings?

Spike, Stock measurements I took from the concrete to the fender lip: 32" Front/34"Rear. Modified:F-32/R32-1/2". Modified from the centerline of the hub:19/19. I am at a loss to explain the 1/2"difference. (Maybe a fender contor or something?) Fred.

Silver make sure you go straight when I did it it was 1/2 higher due to tape hitting spoke on rim.
Spike thanks for the help on earlier thread, sorry took a while to find.

SILVERLIGHTNING:
Did you measure it after you lowered the jack? Just in case, jump onto the rear bumper and jump off. Then measure it again.

Boostin01L:
No problem. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

So far the trend for stock ride height is 19 front and 20 rear, but the sample set is obviously way too small. I'm also interested to find out how my Hotchkis springs compare to other Hotchkis springs.

Well, I just rechecked and got 19/19. The Belltechs dropped me 1.5 so I guess 20.5 is where it was.I have also been told that the half inch lower front(fender to concrete),is due to the weight of the front end causing tire squat. Fred.

SILVERLIGHTNING:
Fender to concrete won't give meaningful measurements for several reasons (tire wear, different tire pressures, different tires...)

Boostin01L:
I'll answer it in the other thread.
