There's always something!!
I changed my oil yesterday with only 500 miles on the truck, and now there is a "marble in the can" noise coming from passenger side of the engine!!!!
Does anyone know what the hell this noise is?!?!?
Any help please.

I don't know exactly what it is, but i heard you should wait like 10,000 miles or something before you switch to the synthetic oil. You may have done it too soon. Sorry to hear it.
Anyone else know what exactly could have happened?

I changed mine at 1200miles, filled the oil filter prior to, and put the motorcraft 5w-20 back in and I too have the marble sound. Mine is not as noticable as it was when I first changed the oil.
I have no answers to the problem. I know that I changed mime to Mobile 1 synthetic 5w30 at 9 miles. Now at 15k, and no problems so far. Dageon

Anybody that "doesn't" change the oil themselves ever have this problem? Mine has only been changed twice; but, I don't have the noise. Only 7,000 miles so far. No flames.....Just asking a question that I haven't heard asked on this subject. I just have a hard time seeing how changing the oil, if done properly, can cause this problem.

Odin's Wrath:
I've changed my own oil for years and have never came across anything like this.
I did every oil change on my '99 with out this happening, why all of a sudden is it happening on my '02?
Has anyone had this happen, and then the noise went away after subsequent oil changes?
VERY CURIOUS!!!

Here's my take:
It's an '01-'02 thing for sure and the only difference I can pinpoint is the oil used.
I think the 5w20 is to blame. It does not offer enough protection for our application, in turn, several '01-'02 trucks have had blown engines.
Does anybody know what oil comes in the 01-02 from the factory?
I'm betting it is a thicker oil, like 10w30, for break in purposes. It would make sense that the noise would appear right after an oil change with fresh 5w20.
Again, this is just my take on this . . . I could be way off.

these trucks should be coming with 5w-20 from the factory i changed my oil at 1500 to mobil 1 5w-30 and didnt get the noise i just changed my oil today at 4500 same oil and now i hear the noise i was like wtf but if its normal i guess i wont worry about
StruckBy99,
I'm not accusing anyone of being incompetent. I just don't see how changing the oil by itself could cause this. The type of oil isn't a common denominator. I don't recall anyone asking if the style or brand of oil filter varied on the vehicles that had the problem either. By taking it in for an oil change, be it the dealer, Jiffy Lube, or an equivelent, you're likely to be getting the filter recommended by Ford. In the driveway or in the back yard, it's likely that people will use what they're most loyal to or have used in the past. This is probably not the problem either. I don't know. I just asked a question that I've not heard anyone else ask. There seem to be a lot of trucks with this problem. I don't want mine to be next. If asking a hard question, even if it comes up to another dead end, is going to help solve this problem, then someone needs to ask. I would hope that no one would take it personally.
