Has anyone removed the blower belt and then listened for the sound? I think I'll try that tomorrow. Today when I pulled up at the shop and could hear the clatter, I popped the hood and got really close (wished I had a stethoscope) to listen. It sounded like the noise was coming from the blower. I can't imagine what (inside the blower) could make that sound but I'm going to try it. Surely the screws (impellers, whatever) don't touch. Unless maybe there's a valve that flutters at low RPM? Obviously I don't know much about superchargers but I'm at least going to find out what's causing the noise.

rattle

my father bought a 2000 used and it had a rattle sound. With help from this board, the dealer had to loosen the exhaust, run the truck till the exhaust was heated up , and refasten it. They also replaced the cat....cat was was making a rattling sound....broken catalyst in side. There is a seem on the floorboard that the exhaust is quite close to .....some trucks actually have the two contact.... I know this is off topic from oil, but the motor is my dad's truck had been replaced rather recent before he bought it, it a 2001 motor. I noticed the rattling sound and the oil thing was the first thing i thought of because i seen it on the board before........but it actually turned out to be the exhaust on the passenger side. Worth a shot......

I would sure like it if that was the problem!!! My noise is on the passenger side!

I'm going to check that out tomorrow.

Who knows, maybe something happend when the truck was jacked up and sitting on jack stands. Only jacked the driver side up.......exhaust maybe swayed to passenger side.....who knows, its worth a look.

Thanks,
J

StruckBy99-I truly hope this is your problem..... I decided not to change the oil today. I am going to wait until I have 3000 on it before I change it and for the first one I will have a dealer do it. I will take the oil sample before I take it to the dealer.

Let us know if the exhaust is in fact your problem. Thanks.

Gary

i know i know

The problem is that the 5w20 is the oil recommend for the normal f150, not the lightning. SVT uses 10w30 synthetic blend
in these engines new. They dont want you to know that.It even says in owners manual for stadard f150 use 5w30 if severe
driving.Who doesnt drive severe? It has nothing to do with the filter.

Whenever I get a new car I change the oil @ 500 or 1000 miles.
Performance vehicle will be done 500...

I changed the L @ 500 miles @ the dealer. After that marbles were the result. I can live w/that..

What put me on 10 was the oil change @ 3500 miles..
I had Caker State 5w-20 in the truck for 2 days. Thanks to recommendations from this board I took that crap out & installed
Castrol 5w-30..

When the truck is 1st started & cold piston slap..
I have a big issue with this because it sounds nerve racking.
My 00 Navigator never makes any odd noises when cold.

At 7k it will be time for another change this spring when the weather clears.

Will 10w-30 remedy this noise??
Will also pre-lube oil filter this time.

Could all of this have been prevented if I had the filter prelubed on the 1st change??

The "marble in can" sound has nothing to do with pre-lubing the filter. Pre-lubing only helps on the first start-up after the oil change.

SVT doesn't build the Lightning engine, Windsor Engine Plant does. The plant doesn't have a special oil fill station for these engines....everything going down the line gets the same oil...5W20.
