Good buy on floor jack?
I have no intention of ever getting under the damned truck. The only reason I want a floor jack is to take it to the track and change rear wheels. Have you tried to change a tire with the jack that comes with the truck? Fugettaboutit. I will go by Sears today and check them out, but I am inclined to get the cheap one simply because it is so much lighter, and would be easier to lift in and out of the bed.

If you're really overboard, like I am, I have two of those $45 jacks, AND jackstands- One jack for each side, and 12 ton stands underneath-
My L's been up on them for 3 days now. It's not gonna go ANYWHERE.

I have a 3 ton sears jack and have used it for about 15 years. It works like a champ and has never failed, but they are not probably made by the same supplier today; however, beware of Lincoln jacks. They use to be first class; however, last year they moved their entire production to Taiwan. Who knows what the quality will be now.
The only drawback to all these jacks is the weight. They are a real pain in the butt to lift in and out of the truck.
I bought a lightweight sears jack that works but the foot print is small. It can turn over and you have to get under the truck to jack it up. I've gone back to the heavyweight because it is safer and easier to use.
The best jack to get is a persoanl use NASCAR lightweight aluminum jack. NASCAR jacks are rated at 2000 pounds which is border line, in my opinion for putting under the pumpkin and jacking the whole rear at once, which is the way I do it; however, there are several companies that make this same style and weight of jack with a 3000 pound rating. These jacks weigh in at less than 40 pounds compared with my old boat anchor which is about twice that. They are also pricy at 450 to 600, but if I had the money I would buy one.
Here are a couple I found.
You'll love this first one its called the Litening Jack.

The last one is the cheapest but I suspect of pacific rim origin and may be lacking in quality.

Personally I like the Litening jack. If anyone wants to buy two and give me one, I will put your name on my truck as a sponsor.

I have two of the jacks noelvm is talking about. The first is the ligtning jack.It is just like the winston cup jack, but it did cost almost $600. It is only used on our race car.
The other is the Powerlift jack. Only 36 lbs.Yes it is made overseas but it was on sale at costcos for a little less then $400 w/ tax. I had my buddy whose is a fabricator check the jack out and he bought one himself. That was good enough for me. It is a 3000 lb. jack with a 3 1/2 to 17 1/2 inch reach. Had it for a while and once you use it you will ever want to go back to a 90 lb. jack again. It is just like the cup jack and if you have the money I highly recomend. Also I have used it on the L several times with no problem at all.Hope this helps.

Vinnie,
We have a new Costco here and I went in and looked for that jack but they didn't have it. Can you supply a few more particulars like the Costco part number. Maybe they have it on their website.

Here's the cheapest one I have found so far at Sams, but it is made in China, but still has the Sams guarentee. 40 pounds and 2 ton capacity.

You are going to have to keep looking. The one by my house sold 25 of them in a week.I could not believe it.I had to go to another one to get mine and there was only 2 left and the guy at the register said that he had seen 2 of the jacks already.Obviously the word got out that you can a cup style jack for under $400 and low buck race teams are buying them. I do not Know about the website but keep looking.I can not tell you how much easier it is.It is one of the best kept secrets.
True story. My cousin was working under his car, and was using concrete blocks as jack stands. Naturally, the blocks broke with my cousin under the car. Fortunately for him, the car only cut his ear as the frame squeezed his head to the ground. He's very lucky to be here. USE JACK STANDS!!!
