O.K. I know, Do You ????
Uh.....
Wrongday... how many times have you been to the track in your Lightning?
I guarantee you that you will NEVER shift as well as the computer in this truck. IMPOSSIBLE!!! I spent a whole day at the track trying... to NO avail.
To answer some of your questions...
The gentlemen here talking about hitting the rev limiter are talking about doing so during the burnout... HIGHLY PROBABLE for a FIRST timer... Doing so will ENABLE the boost bypass..., and engine will NOT get any boost from the s/c on the next launch... or whatever...
Hitting the rev limiter at the 60' mark? YUP! ESPECIALLY with a first timer, shifting MANUALLY as you suggest.

I understand where you guys are coming from.
I respect your opinions and can't honestly say I disagree with them entirely. When I was first learning how to launch these mothers, I let the trans shift itself, too. . . right up until the point that it RUINED at beautiful run by upshifting itself at 4000 rpm at WOT. (I guess it wasn't as smart as some people think)
I know that for the most part the computer does a wonderful job with the transmission. . .simply wonderful.
Yea right.
Ever wonder why shift kits and transmission modifications are so popular among us L owners. . . . . .I mean, hell, why would anyone with half a brain ever want to modify such a SMART transmission? Gimme a break.
These tranny's shift like crap stock.
We all know it. Thank God there's guys like Factory_Tech out there to help us out. So don't feed me this crap about how WONDERFULLY SMART this transmission is.
I sincerely hope none of you experience the premature upshift syndrome as I did.
No personal jabs intended, just sharing what I experienced.

Later,
Don't heat up the stock tires (don't smoke em). I've heard that they become MORE slippery when heated up. And if you're stock, I would have your overdrive off so it doesn't shift right at the end of the 1/4. Go on the third yellow and have fun.

YUP!
Yup! They don't shift anywhere near as good as a manual tranny. But I do know this...
Shifting this tranny manually is a joke... I'm not sure where or how, but the computer, or the tranny, one or the other, STILL tries to second guess you... Why do you think you are telling it to shift at 4750 and it still waits 'til 5100? C'mon now! That is 350 RPM's of SLOP!
AND...
That ONE time my tranny up-shifted too soon, I am ABSOLUTELY sure it did a BETTER job of shifting than the ONE(HA!) time you mis-shifted by shifting it manually.
