Lower the pressure in the F1's to 28psi. A quick dry hop to clean em off (go around the water if possible). Stage the truck and torque it up to about 1200RPM. Tree comes down, let off the brake and let the truck just start to roll befor you nail the gas to the floor.

Just dont hit the rev limiter, and you wont have to worry about the boost bypass.

when i went to moroso i did nothing special. i kept the tire pressure stock as well as everything else. did a little burnout. line up at the tree, took it to about 1500rpm, tree dropped and i pressed the pedal down (not slammed it down). hooked perfectly and got the time in my sig.

I to have not been to the track as of yet, but wil be there in a couple of weeks. Do you do anything special W/ the overdrive? Also what exactly is the rev limiter? Please don't rip me apart I am new to this as well.

If you are completely stock (no chip) then you don't have to worry about hitting the rev limiter or doing anything with the boost bypass..........they'll both be taken care of by the computer.

I have to STRONGLY disagree with the lowered tire pressure advise. Keep the F1's at 40-42 psi. Try to avoid the water box at all costs. Dust off the tires to heat them and then stage shallow. Don't torque up for the launch. . .you'll spin too much. Leave firmly- but don't floor it. Gently roll into the throttle as your speed increases. About 1/2 way to the 60 ft. mark, you should be able to stand on it all the way. Until you get the hang of the 'tip-toe' off the line technique, you may want to let the tranny shift itself. For the best times though. . .you will have to start in low and throw the 2nd gear shift manually at about 4750 rpm. Then go into drive at the end of 2nd gear (at 4750 rpm), you will have to air out 3rd with your gears. Hopefully you won't have to tap OD. Regardless of what you hear. . .I have tried every other technique under the sun and this is the only way I could consistantly run 13.5's stock. I have a '99 though, and we were blessed with the 3.55's. 3.73's may be a bit tougher to launch on with stock rubber.

This technique is only if you are running the stock tires. IF YOU SWITCH TO STICKY RUBBER. . .THIS TECHNIQUE IS NOT THE BEST WAY TO LAUNCH.

Hope this helps. . .

Cool

Another thing that I found to help me is to increase the front tire pressure to around 40psi. Less rolling resistance that way. Just don't forget to get them back to normal pressure before you head home. If you don't have one already, make sure you have a quaility air gauge to keep in you L to keep an eye on the tires...

Wrongday thats the wrong way! Let the trans. shift on it's on. Why would you shift at less than 5200 rpm's (stock shift point)? The tuners here said shifting at lower rpm's will cost you big time in E.T.

There is no validity to the above post about manually shifting the transmission.

Leave it in drive and let it shift for you...
If not, you are flirting with disaster!

If you smoke em up and hit 6000....you've probably done some major damage to the lower end.

Also, in the excitement of the moment, it is very easy to push the gear selector too far.....into reverse.

Hope this helps.

OK.

1. The gentleman clearly stated that he is STOCK.

The chances of him smoking the tires past 60 ft. are slim to none. Agree?

2. The gentleman clearly stated that he is STOCK.

If he throws the shift at 4750 it will complete the shift at about 5100 rpm. We all know that these tranny's shift slow STOCK. If he doesn't feel comfortable shifting himself, then I highly recommend(ed) he let it shift itself.

3. Way too often I have had this transmission kick up a gear too early on me at WOT. I have found that holding it down myself prevents it from kicking up too early. I have had it upshift at WOT as early as 4000 rpm. Not good. Agree?

4. I figured some people would jump on my reply. To you who disagree with me I say. . .Disagree if you want. It's a free country. I think alot of you have forgotten what it is like to drive a bone STOCK Lightning.

5. I also stated that if the vehicle was modified (tires) then my technique was not optimal.

Personally, I believe MPH are just as important in a 1/4 mile run
as E.T., and the technique I employed will give more MPH than letting the tranny shift itself (STOCK).

I stand behind what I said.

(Shift into reverse by accident?!- - - hahahaha!)
(I guess his pinky finger could get stuck in the keychain and pull his key out of the ignition, too.- - -hahahahaha!)

Do NOT manually shift it. They aren't like the olds trans that shift when you move the selector. There is a time delay after you shift like the thing is checking with the computer to see if it's okay to shift. The computer will shift it quicker and more accurately if you leave it in "drive". Torque to 1100 and "roll" into the throttle at the third yellow light and come to full throttle within 1/2 to 3/4's of a second after launch. Avoid the water box and leave rear tires at 30psi to get maximum contact with road surface. Do not cut in front of your opponent at the exit ramp if it is on his side, give him right-of-way.

Thumbs down Manual shifting this transmission

is like telling Shumacher how to drive.

If this is your first time or first year, let the transmission do it on its own. I turn off the O/D only because I want some engine braking as well, at the end of the 1/4.

I agree with WrongdayJ.................on the avoiding the water box part. I leave the tires at stock pressure (32 PSI), short dry hop to knock the dust off, stall to 1200, and then ease into the throttle, leave the O/D on (you won't hit 4th), and let the tranny do it's thing. Results in sig.
