Question about broken rods?

Has anyone lost a bottom end running a 99 or 00 with 4 lbs. or less of extra boost? I keep reading about 01's but I'm not sure I've seen any 99's or 00's with rod Problems unless they were running way over 4 lbs. extra boost.

The current perception is that 2# pulleys are safe. But As soon as I post this I'm sure that someone will post that they busted something while running a 2#'er

I guess what is called SAFE is what you feel in your own heart. Many have tons of opinions. A motor could let go stock if its meant to be. Then again someone may get one that can hold 20psi for along time, or a 150 shot for along time. Its hard to say what is SAFE!! A 2lb would be SAFER than a 4,5,or 6 I guess. But it really is up to you my friend....

I don't think you understand my question. I'm not asking what is safe. I have a 4 lb. comming this week. I want to know if anyone with a 99 or 00 running 4 lbs. of boost or less has had a rod let go. All the post I have seen were either 01's or they were running more than 4 lbs. of boost.

Jerry,

Yes there have been 99 & 00's letting go with 2,4, or NOS added to them. They are a identical long block to the 01's. You may have a good one, or you may not. I have run a 3 & 6 on my 01 so far with no motor problems. I feel lucky?LOL

Do you?

Bubba,

Is that a ford part # for the block? Happen to have one for the 01 crank as well? I was told they are the same. I could be wrong...

I just thought maybe Ford got a bad set of rods from their vendor. It just seemed to me that I have been hearing about more 01's blowing than 99's. The first 99 I knew of that came apart was Jim @ JDM and he was running 18-20 lbs. of boost or something.

Jerry I have a 99 and I've beat on it allot since I got it new.

I had a 2lb pulley since they first came out, then I bought a nitrous kit and I was spraying it all last year with 50 shots on top of the 2lb pulley. Towards the end of last year I got a metco upper 2lb pulley and I ran that also. This year I have upgraded from the 2lb lower to a 4lb lower pulley from PSP.

So this year I have been running around on the street with about 5.5 to 6 pounds extra boost and I've sprayed it once on the street with a 50 shot and it was all good. SERIOUS traction problems, but my truck still felt ultra smooth and I really couldn't tell I was juicing it anyway.

In my own personal opinion I think the 99's and 00's are better motors without a doubt. And all the 01 guys can say that's just because there's more parts out now, but what do you hear about breaking more? I must see about 9 out of the 10 times a motor lets go, its a 01 motor. Maybe ford just screwed up and got some chitty rods. Besides the 99 guys still keep upgrading to new better parts all the time.

I'm just saying, your truck should be fine. Mines doing good, and most 99 guys are still running strong with the exception of the intercoolers going bad, but thats fixed now.
