Confused! Loss of power with Bassani too?
I've been following a few threads on here where people were losing power after installing their Maganaflows (whether from too little backpressure, or bad bends in the pipe, etc.). Has anyone noticed a similar decrease in power/performance with the cat-back Bassani? I don't know how "free-flowing" this unit is so I don't know if it reduces backpressure too much, etc. I have one on order, but don't want to put it on if it's going to slow me down. I am willing to accept equal performance, but not less. The exta noise ain't worth losing any torque to me.
Most of the archived threads I have read thus far seem to indicate that there is no seat-of-the-pants difference after installing the Bassani cat-back- but I figured I'd ask just in case some people were in fact sacrificing a little power for the more aggressive sounds. Better yet, has anyone dyno'd their L before and after, or notice a difference in their timeslips?

I got better throttle response. Alot of sound & maybe 1 or 2 mph at the track. If I can blow the Bassani off it still has plenty of backpressure to me. If you get one get the U-bolt style clamps or weld it on. The stock bassani clamps SUCK!
That all depends on how much power over stock you are running.
Im positive that if yout take a stock 01 truck and put a bassani kit on it you won't see any gain.
But if you have a heavily moddified truck and you install the kit then you'll see a power gain.

Right now I am bone stock and was waiting to mod until after my dealer got this rough idle thing figured out. Now I have the green light, so I'm starting out conservatively. If I don't see a gain with the Bassani, that's fine. I just don't want to see a loss!
I have a stock 01 L with only bassani catback and k&n panel filter. As much as I don't wan't to believe it, I think the addition of the catback MIGHT have taken away a SMALL amount of torque in the low rpm's, it ABSOLUTELY gave me some HP at the upper rpm's. Enough to more than cancel out the possible loss down low.
Thats what I am doing.
Getting a bassini first for the sound and it is a logocal first choice if you are going to do any mods.No chip needed yet and with a air induction system you have the front and back covered. Might not seem like a needed item at first but after mods it will be worth it.
Bassani catback
Had mine for a few weeks now. Can't feel any loss or gain. Had to install a PSP High Flow Air Filter couple days later to hear my Eaton again
Now I have the best of both worlds screamin eaton and bassani thunder

From installing the FULL Bassani setup, i.e. headers, cats, cats back, I saw about 15 extra horsepower. I don't know if I would've seen any from just the cat-back. I also have no idea how the power difference would be with a big pulley, etc., probably greater. The stock exhaust flows pretty darn well for STOCK apps. Once you start adding another 100 horses, I don't know if that's still the case.

Dont worry you made the right choice with the Bassani-Cat Back. After i put it on i didnt feel like i lost anything i actully felt like i gained some power. But once you hear a lightning with it you wont regret it. People like it me and are like what the hell is that coming. The truck sounds mean after it like it should have from the factory cant wait to get my long-tube headers makes it even louder. The best part is the tips they are stainless and they shine not like the stock ones and they are 4 inches make the stock ones like look tooth picks.
Trust me you wont be dissappointed.

I agree with Rtkilla. That should be your LAST mod. As far as loosing low-end Tq., that is quickly remedied with a larger blower pulley.Too much emphesis is placed on exhaust systems. They only work when you increase the intake A/F volume.Remember an engine is just a big air pump.
I didn't gain any power when I installed my full Bassani kit. However, I did lose some mph with the Basssani headers. I'm now running just the cat pipe and cat back on my truck w/ long tubes coming soon.
IMO, The Bassani is worth the money for the quality and sound it produces.

From all of the posts I've seen on exhaust aftermarket changes, it appears that it is a toss-up on whether or not there is a low end power loss from less backpressure. When I did a Gibson 3" cat back on my 5.4 Expy, oh yeah, lots of low end loss.
I bought a cheap turbolator tip from J.C. W.... and that helped.
What I am seeing as a pattern here is the aftermarket exhaust that has too much diameter and does not have an X pipe, like the Bassani, a loss of low end is usually felt.
I have a bone stock '02 and want to pump up the sound a little, I like low end torque because it is the fun range for me. I will get the Bassani, even though very expensive and well made, because, in theory, the X pipe will somewhat maintain the back pressure because of crossing exhaust pulses.
If I lose too much low end because of the Bassani, I will adapt and weld the stock pipes and tips from my L.
IMHO, that should still sound good and give me my low end.
Sorry for the length, Just my $.02

Thanks everyone for the replies. This thread alone proves that there are many opinions and experiences out there.
My Bassani arrived today but I won't be able to put it on until next week. I'll post what my butt dyno says once it's on. I may be able to do some back-to-back runs on a local dyno, but that's only if I am lucky and have time. Somehow I get the feeling that I'll have a silly grin even if there is a slight loss in torque...

I take it back. Tonight my L felt extremely fast for a 01 with catback and panel filter. With the stock pcm/computer, if you WOT it from 70mph it down-shifts into either 2nd(if your lucky) or 3rd (most likely). Today I learned if i WOT from 60mph (not <62mph) you experience an immediate downshift to 2nd(5000rpm). I thought i was in my cousin's 2000 L with a chip (psp 4 way).
