Whip = a local saying (Marblehead MA) to get someones attention. You see another local walking down the street, and instead of yelling "hey Joe!" you simply yell "Whip!" to get their attention. I don't know how this got started, other than probably some old New England fishing thing. I always liked that saying...then when the "new cool" term for car "Whip" came out, (check out my whip, yo!) it kind of made me laugh, cause I'm pretty old school. Anyway, I tried to get the license plate WHIP but it was taken by an old Marbleheader who will have it till he dies....and will probably pass it down to a family member.
Hehe...nother old townie saying "Dawn bucket" (down bucket) meaning the ***** is coming! Originated from when people who lived in town would throw buckets of anything from sewage to wash water out the second floor window into the street! They would yell that as a warning.
