Heavy Truck

I know people are having problems with their engines by modding the hell out of them, and I am weary of it myself. Maybe we should try and make the best out of the power we have instead of pushing the stock engines to the limit, by removing weight. I myself have removed the spare tire and hitch permanently, and soon will be ordering the fiberglass springs for the rear. But I think that we are taking weight out of the wrong end. Just wondering if any of you guys know people that make lighter weight fenders, hoods, or anything of the sort.

Heavier than a Screw!

Looking at buying an 01 Screw for the family.
the 01 Screw XLT only weighs in at 4,581lbs while the stock L weighs in at 4,670lbs.

Hmmm.

Stock hood is 22lb alum. so I don't think there is too much there. Fiberglass is 44lb. Check the 'Hood Bonaza' (sp) thread a while back.

Bumber is standard bumber with Lightning Bumber Cover. Haven't seen any replacement bumbers. But thats the point, the bumber is there to protect and needs to be sturdy. I don't think the bumber cover is too much of a weight issue.

Engine: Everybody knows what you can do to the engines.

Maybe relocate battery for some weight distribution.

Wheels: I think the stock rims are ~30 lbs + rubber. Could switch to skinnies. Might as well when putting on Slicks.

Suspension: I don't have a clue. What would weigh less and still hold up the 5.4?

Fuel: When moving the battery, might as well remove fuel tank and mount a 5 gal fuel cell as far back as you can. I'd hate to put it so close to the battery though .

I think most weight is the 1) Cab slight forward of half mark, 2) Big phuckin' engine . This isn't some 4banger u-no? If you try anything with the wheels or supension, keep us informed.

BTW: love the blue. If I had it to do again, I'd be in it. But silver is hard to beat. (Yes Tampa, Red it the proven fastest, or so you say )

Supercrew 45-- WHAT???

Excuse me KidOver40, but besides my L, I also have a 2001
Screw XLT, and with my 210 lb. @ss in it, it weighs in at 5105lbs.
This is on a scale at a Ford Motor Company Plant.
Not to rag you, but I believe you have some bad info.

Well you have allready done 3 things to remove weight from the front
Long tube headers, replacing the heavy cast iron manafolds.
Cobra water pump and electric fan are lighter than the stock unit.
The Lower pulley is also lighter than the stock pulley.

Maybee some chrome molly control arms would help save weight too.

Remove the front anti-sway bar--for the 1/4 mile track use. Less truck over the front and it will help you launch quicker.

Marc Carpenter,

I can’t say how much your Screw weighs, but the info comes from NADA car price guide.

Here’s the link for the Screw:

Here’s the link for the L:

Who Knew?

For every 100 lbs of weight you take off your suppose to gain 1/10th of a second in the quarter mile but I don't think you want to take that weight out of the rear.
Just my .02 cents worth

? How come when I lighten the truck up it spins the tire more?
