I guess they didn't like the long tube headers/exhaust, the 6# lower pulley, the upper pulley, chip/filter, throttle body, breather, electric fan/water pump, traction bars, lowered suspension, QA1 shocks, driveshaft loop, boost guage, all the rubber around the wheel wells, or the dragslicks in the back.
They did like the rear spoiler, LOL
It is OK I only have 1300 miles left on the warranty anyways, and I am sure the built motor and trans will hold up just fine.

Just some back ground info...

Ford Motor Company - "Installation of a non-genuine Ford item...does not, in and of itself, render our warranty void." - Ford Owner Relations Division.
Check out this page ( for the text only not the product )

If nothing was going on with the power tain, and the dealer said your warr is void, they are blowing smoke up your primary orafic.
There have been several threads on this in the Computer Chips section I think is where they were.
Under the Magnuson-Moss act, just saying it does not make it so.
Also Ford acks this as well.
The dealer must prove that an afer market mod voided the warr.
I think in the case of the other threads, the dealer did not get the warr dollars, and did not want to eat his share of it from Ford, so he made the no warr, full ticket statement to get all his money for the work.
Writing a nice letter to the service manager stating what happened, and requesting a written reply in 10 business days as to why this can happen is the best course of action.
Also if you want to toss in the kicker after you get thier reply, send them another letter letting them know you are reporting them to the BBB with the 2 letters ( this is why you do it after the written reply ) as backing, and also you are reporting them to the FTC.
This might get a few heads turned your way, and the warr might all of a sudden not be void.
This way if you ever have a warr claim, and they say no again, you can take it to the DSB board, with the backing documentation of what they did on a whim.
I am not saying this is a quick process, it may take longer to get your truck fixed, but in the long run if you don't want the fully built motor yet, it can save you some bucks.
Low_redL, what was the problem? If a blown head gasket don't fret. That could be the only problem I could see with the head.
Still an excuse to put some better rods in
Reminds me of the day when my 96Z has the warranty voided. It was the last day it was good and they voided citing the torque converter and nitrous
I knew it wasn't worth it to yank everything when only 6 hours were left on the warranty. Still got some work done then the tech fussed at me for not telling him I had the stuff on there in the first place. Even said don't ever bring the car back, so that dealership has lost any future sales.

Sorry about your luck buddy. I hope my plugs hold up on my 00 w/ 3500k on it now. I can run stock plugs with chip, filter and exhaust right? How will I know my if my plugs start to get loose? Any way to prevent it?
I dont know why everyone thinks that stock plugs arent good for extra boost. When i had my problems with my truck ,which didnt relate anything to plugs had to do with a bad ground on my PCM, the stock plugs were fine with all my mods on. I went to Sals house and was there from 9 in the morning till 9 at nite. We couldnt figure out what the hell was wrong with the truck kept on running to lean. So after we tryed everything including new PCM Sal said wanna change the plugs maybe thats it. Well we changed the plugs and they were all fine. So now i got a set of NGK TR6's in there. After Sal changed my stock plugs and they were fine the mods i was running were PSP flip chip, 90mm MAF, BaBolt TB, 2# lower pulley, 1.5-2# upper pulley, Airraid with 10" Big Mouth Filter, Bassani Cat Back, Factory_Tech Valve Body im pretty sure thats it. Oh yeah and when my truck had all these mods on it and was running good i saw 14-14.5# of boost on my autometer boost gauge. So my factory plugs were fine with those mods and extra boost. So im guessing its more of a loose plug then stock plugs with mods problem.

In fact to prove my point wasn't it Bubbalightning who ran stock plugs and 5.5#'s of boost. When the connecting rod broke in his engine that was the only thing wrong with the truck. The plugs, pistons, and valves were all in excellent condition. The stock plugs outlasted his engine.

I had Denso's in when My electrodes disappeared. Not to mention the rings in two cylinders. I was running a chip, intake 3# pulley. they gave me a new long block. Yes the dealer has a lot to do with warranty issues. Why would they void your warranty..they stand to make the profit off of any warranty work.
It is a touchy situation. They told me I was running to much boost. They told me I had a chip....I took mine home and removed the parts..just to clean them up. I happened to take it back in while the parts were at the cleaners. I would say the plug came out like all the others have. Tell them you want the oil leak on the head repaired. It is leaking oil ain't it. MIne was. My tune was conservative by most standards..just look around at all the boost that is happenin' round here. Not to mention Nitrous on stock rods. Talk to Service Manager and see if he has for sure put you in the database. If so ask him for proof that your parts did the damage...remind him that this plug blow out issue is well documented. Remind him you know what a lawyer is and does. Ford is not the only one you can take to court. The dealer ship and the employee's as well. Reason with him. It would be in their best interest to at least work with you.
Just My opinion of course....Not only do I have an opinion. I have been called an ******* for it.
SO what else is new. Take the initiative..what have you got to loose..Your warranty?
Like the man said..Maybe miss firing stock plugs are the problem..They are however "stock". Last I heard that means the warranty should fix the damage. Let them prove it was not the plugs. They can prove it was your aftermarket parts after all..Can't they? I really doubt it. Remind the dealer how much a rental costs not to mention fixing the damage to your engine. Cheaper to fix the damage. Cheaper still for Ford to fix it. Some will say it's your fault. So...if you think it is..pay to fix it. If not persue other options. The cost of the factory warranty is most certainly figured into the cost for the vehicle from the dealer..
Good luck whatever you do..

If the tune were not too lean and timing not too advanced, then I can't see how stock plugs wouldn't suffice. I only go one step colder on the LT1/w 9psi and that isn't really needed since I have the timing curves altered and the BTM. (not to mention running a little richer PE curve)
So can some 'explanzes' it to me?

My question:
Is this spark plug ejection issue a concern for all Gen 2 Lightnings, or only the earlier Lightnings? Also, what kind of signs are there that the plug is about to blow? Also, i've been reading about the Denso Iridium plugs which are expensive, but sound appealing. Any advantage on a stock engine? I may just wait till the factory warranty is expired to really start modding. For now, i'll probably just get a Factory Tech Valve body, boost bypass kit, and maybe and intake and exhaust.

Isn't factory spec 15k? Thanks for any info.

I feel strong about the rights of the consumer. I hate to hear "the dealer said this voids my warranty". I think this shows the ignorance of the dealership when they claim a warranty is void because of the presants of aftermarket parts.
Tough I feel strong about our rights, I also believe that we have to accept the responsibility. I would guess that there aren't many "kids" here that go down to the local Pep-Boys and buy add on parts for their Lightning (or other F150). I would guess that most think it through. I think it's important to have some idea of the affects and possible side affects of a particular mod.
This case is obviously not cut and dry. I think one of the best things to do is to arm ourselves with knowlege. That is par for the course for the people here on F150 Online and especially here in the Lightning section. I would guess that there are a few who just don't understand what the mods are doing.
If this is a case of a OE problem than the right questions should have been asked, in the beginning. The proper knowlege really could have helped.
Hey, I want to aviod things breaking as much as the next F150 owner. I have accepted that there are many potential issues that could cause warranty claim denial. I wouldn't like to be refused warranty work but I can't expect them to fix the stuff that breaks because of what I've done.
Anyone know the status of this now?
