Just my opinion, however, if Ford concentrated on Dealer Service it would not only save a lot of jobs but everyone would be on overtime. This is an easy way to gain market share in this economy.

CHIKIN1,
What I'm getting at is that there are ALOT of 'Limited Production" vehicles out there. I don't want to see OUR TRUCKS become a "Toyota Limited".
I'm just being selfish. You know, I got mine too bad your too slow.

According to an article in MSNBC today, the Canadian auto workers contract with Ford expires in the fall of 2002. Not 2003 like the US UAW contract does.

The contracts forbid plant closures.

I was just wondering the same thing about Mr. Coletti. Doesn't look good unless the economy improves alot over the next 6-9 months.

NOSTROMO- Excellent....couldn't agree more from the stuff I have seen.

Frank S - Not sure what you are talking about, but the executives at the auto companies work NON-STOP. You could always find them in their office. The higher up you go, the longer they work. Chief engineers work 7 days a week 12-13 hours a day and without overtime....and the workload just goes up from there.

Reality - Better dealer service would be great, but Ford Motor Company cannot do much about it. Dealers are independently owned and opperated and FoMoCo has no control over them. Ford tried to improve the situation with the Blue Oval certification, and the dealers sued them.

It breaks my heart to hear that the plants are going to be closed. And I also would be interested in seeing where the Lightning will be built when they close the Ontario plant, or is Ford going to end production. Closer to home, the closing of the Edision plant will affect MANY families. The employee's with 30 yrs service will probably be ok, but the worker with 10 yrs or less faces an uncertain future BTW... I wonder how many of the soon to be layed-off workers, if any, drive foreign vehicles? I drive by the GM plant in Linden NJ (Chevy/GMC pickups and SUV's) every morning and there areALOT of japanese cars in the employee lot. It might just be me, but if I worked at a plant that produced cars/trucks, I would purchase and drive the vehicle from my plant! Rant over, and wish the best to the affected families

I thought they were changing body style in 2003. Why would they retool a factory and use it for one year then close it?

...nevermind. I was reading another thread that said the redesign was going to be in 2003. From other opinions it won't be until 2004 so that would make sense.

Here is that thread:

I here ya Fast Gator, I work at Ontario truck and drive the best we build!! This really sucks! Ford is building a new truck plant in Detroit and will most likely get the Lightning. No disrespect to the U.S.A, but you aren't getting any tooling secrets from us!!jk.Still can't believe it!

They have to keep the Ontario Truck plant open until the contract expires with the CAW...it's in the contract.

As far as which plant will build the L, my guess would be Kansas City since they are already tooled to build the supercharged Harley's. Other options are Norfolk, VA, or Cuautitlan, Mexico...both plant's also build F150's.

Dr. Triton

The contract expires this September!!! The original lightning run was only going to be for four years at four thousand units a year (we all know they made more though). The 02's would have been the end of the gen 2's run anyways. The F150 is do for a redesign in 03. Who knows when the next lightnings will be made .
