Cage is done!!!!!!

I just picked the truck up from having a six point installed, AWSOME is all I can say. Ultratech Racecars did a great job on the cage. I will post pics over the weekend! Am I the only one with a cage???????? I hope everyone is ready for the racing season this year and hope ALL will be legal!

Can't wait to see those pics! Our cage project starts Monday. Unfotunately we have to do a 10 point, which really requires a lot of work. One thing I have found doing some pre-construction legwork, is that several aspects of doing the cage in the truck requires some funky stuff to be NHRA legal. We've spent a lot of time on the phone with NHRA working out all the grey areas of how to legally construct the cage. I'd be interested in hearing on how yours is set up, just to compare notes with what NHRA told us we had to do, so if you want to shoot me an e-mail, that would be cool.

I can't wait for the pics. I am going to need a cage this spring time, and would love to see what you have done.

Sal why do you need a 10 point cage?
How fast do yo plan to go?
I was under the impresion that unless you run in the 9's that a 5 point is legal?

It's Ruslow's. I thought about doing it, but I am going to settle for something a little less radical since I don't need a tech speed of 185 mph (he does )

The dash was removed because there is a bar for the cage that was placed behind the dash. Also, you may notice a horizontal and vertical bar down by the emergency brake in the second photo.

Don, a 5 point BAR is required for 11.99 to 11.00. That consists of the main hoop, cross bar, two rear bars, and one side bar, on the drivers side. Most people do the pass side side bar as well, but not required. For 10.99 to 10.00, you need to add the roof halo, and the two bars going down the windshield pillars to the floor.

Sal---I would check with NHRA again on your thinking, as you plan do use the stock floorplan and stock firewall right??? If thats the case, all you need for 10.99 to 10.00 is an 8 point bar, no halo through the dash, etc....There is a Provision in the rule book, look for the asterik where it says, 8 point bar for un modified stock firewall and stock floorplan rule....I have been fine in my 99 Cobra Convertible with just the 8 point chrome moly bar at many different NHRA tracks, maple grove, atco, bowling green, e town, etc, all the way down to the 10.00's....Something to investigate more before you do more work than you have to!!!! Good luck with the project....

For other cage ideas, Tommy at Larocca's in NJ has a 94 White Lightning with a really nice 10 point cage, and lexan rear windows, really nice job....

BlackCobra, we might be thinking of two different things here. Often there is a 2 point difference between what some people reffer to when talking bars and cages. What I am doing is this-- Main hoop, two rear bars, two side bars, halo around the roof, and two down bars from the front of the halo to the floor. I am not going through the firewall, or doing anything behind the dash. If I were, that would be 12 point cage. What I am doing, is what is required for 10.99-10.00 according to NHRA. I know there are a lot of grey areas with cage rules, but I'd rather do it right, than to drive across the country for an event and not pass tech.

Sal, My buddy eddie just got a job working for Tommy Z at TRZ racing. You know them, they builg some of the baddest cages and suspensions parts around. Tommy Z told me to come in so he could check out the truck and do some figuring for a cage and some suspesion parts. I get to be the test mule, HEHEHEHE YES!

We need to find someone who can design and bend all the bars for us. Then send them to each owner, so they can get them welded and installed.

That's what we are doing Don . As the sections are made for our test truck, they are getting blueprinted so that we can reproduce them to sell as a kit.

Cool, I am sure there will be a big need for them this year.

I may have to get mine done locally unless your kit is out real soon. I need to get something in before FFW in Orlando. I am going to try to take a few weeks off and drive down.
