Hey, we all know that. We're just having fun. The real point is, those guys don't make mods. We do. But it doesn't matter. It's one vehicle against another. One owner doing what he can to make his better and beat the other guy. (Sort of like smart bombs in Afghanistan.) Best of breed. That's what counts. Bring on the modified X06's. We'll find a way to get them. The exciting thing is, which is why guys get excited about these wins, is the odds. My, God, look at what we're working with. A truck. Cheaply produced at that!

Go, Jim (and Sal and Johnny) and everyone else who wants to win!!

Thumbs down

Peter B,
Before you go runnin your mouth at my comment to Jim I have the up most respect for my friends L and yes I know it did not matter in that race because Jim blew him away but no need for the slam.I know a hell of alot more than you think I do and if you have ever read any of my past posts on information you just might re-think your phrase!

Major props to Totaled. The 12.9 that the Z06 ran was kinda slow, but he still would've ran faster than a stock Z06(with a damn good driver) with only ET streets at 14psi. http://www.z06vette.com/forums/attac...=&postid=72856
But alot of guys would consider the change in tires "not stock", which would be correct......

I always thought it was "run what ya brung" at the track. And a "kill by any other name is still a kill". Relish in its simplicity! Some people on the boards just dont get it.

The only mods you need to beat a Z06 badly are: 6lb lower pulley(maybe 5lb), Chip, Long tube headers, convertor and slicks. Those mods will get you running a 12.0-12.3 in warm weather, maybe squeeking 11's in cool weather.

The rest of the mods will drive you deeper into the 11's. They consist of Oval TB, Air Kit, suspension help, etc.

This isn't just my opinion, I know guys running 12.1x-12.2x's with just a JL 4# lower pulley, JL Ram Air, TB, JL Chip, Street ET's and absolutely no other mods.

I agree with Peter B's comment 100%....but I also agree with GPSVT.

Like Peter said....with enuff $$ and mods ANYTHING can be made fast....even a truck. And, yes...there's no question. "A kill is a kill"....but before we all get crazy, you have to recognize it for what it is. A modified vehicle vs a stock vehicle. An overweight 8th grader beating up on a skinny 5th grader.

That being said.....This is a hobby....we do it for fun. It's all about making what you got, faster than what someone else has got. In this case the Lightning owner succeeded at that. The video was cool and that is one haulin'-*** truck, no doubt. I'm sure the Z06 guy was VERY surprised. In fact he may be surprised enuff to go out and begin mod'n his as well. Next time, that Skinny 5th grader may be carrying some brass-knuckles

Seriously though....Very nice kill! That's a damn fast truck!

HIGH ROLLER,
I didn't think my comment was a slam to you at all, on the contrary, I think just about everyone is slamming the Z06 for its loss against Jim. If you step back and look at what you wrote, I think my comment was absolutely appropriate. I'm truly sorry that I offended you. I know who you are, I've read your posts in the past. In fact step back and take a look at this entire thread, everyone is all excited about a truck beating a Z06, but I'm looking into it for exactly what it is and I just wanted to write a reply that people need to not lose sight of exactly what went on with the race (and I am sure there are fellow L owners on this board who truly may not know how a stock L would fair against a Z06). I myself laughed my a$$ of when I saw the video, I replayed it several times, cause it truly was cool as hell to see, and my hats off to Jim in every way for running such incredible times with his beast!

Oh, BTW to everyone, no I do not own a Z06 so I didn't write a post with that type of biased.

Talking

Everybody knows Jim's truck is modded. I'm sure the Z06 owner knows it too. Do you think that it makes him feel any better getting beat by a truck? Getting beat by a truck when you're driving GM's premium flagship no matter how you look at it just has to bunch up the cotton panel.

Peter B,
Thanks for the reply, everything is cool it just seems that with all the negativity recently on the board everyone including myself is so defensive on the littlest things!

Z06Snack

Newbie to the board here. Don't know everyone jusssst yet. Curious to know what exact mods this guy has to beat that Vette? That's way too cool. I'm definitely showing that to my buddy with the highly modded 350 '79 Chev(who I whopped badly), who is a diehard Chev-boy. Tee heee heeeeee. I love this stuff!

Great Vid! Watched it over and over! Brings back good memories of when my 'other' black truck wasted GM's mid-90's flagship in the 1/4 mile- a ZR-1!
