built in the rouge complex,, sounds like a great idea,, i'll set up my spy cameras now and fly heliocopters over it daily, i do like the directiong that design picture is headed,, looks like a smaller cab and much more straight lines.

I hope they don't go with that blocky look like on the new Explorers. But, looking at the Expy spy photos, they are. That look is ugly. I really like the lines of the 2nd gen Lightning's.

Yeah, who wants something that is cutting edge and innovative? The picture above does not look much different than what our trucks look like now. I can't wait for the new F-150's to come out!

looks like a el camino to me,, if anything maybe that is ford's answer to that car i saw a while back from chevy,, sorta a reinvented monte carlo ( please forgive if i have the car name wrong, if i am wrong, the car i'm talking about is the old chevy car that had a truck bed in the back)

Chevy had the El Camino, based on the Monte Carlo. Ford had the Ranchero, based on their mid-size (Fairlane?).

The pictures posted above are of a 2003 Ranchero concept I found at:

not a monte carlo...a crown vic...

that design is horrendous! it's a crown vic with the top chopped and the backseat made into a bed. looks too much like an el camino....i'd be VERY disappointed if they came out with that one!

Well I work at the tool and die building at the rouge in Dearborn and we are just now starting to get in castings for the F-150,HUGE program I f the usual time table goes,it will be a 2004 with a slight chance for a march intro like the Expedition next year. I'll tell you this much the ford Logo on the tail gate is about 3" under the handle and its huge too. Who thought that up I dont know, once they start machining surface I should be able to get a better look.

builtfordfast,

The picture on the right was a concept from '95 or '96. The current F-150's are based off that conept truck.

You are right flareside,, i have a book from 1996 with that concept in it that states it was a concept for the last redesign they did in whatever year it was.

Something i would be game for is the lightning bolt, supposedly it would have 40 more horses in it, a shorter roof, and much more straight lines. I like the look of it, but not so much the way they make the ground effects and fog lights in it. Most likely they'll use something along those lines, but far less concept like in the end. I see them going the same direction Dodge has with their new trucks.

FWIW, if the F-series gets a new skin in 04, dont expect a Lightning until 05 or 06. SVT vehicles seem to lag a year or two behind the platform release. My guess is that's to allow for the additional tuning and to work out some of the 1.0 version bugs

They lag a year or 2? When has this happened? With the 99 Cobras? Oh, maye the 94 Cobras...no, they had one then... uhh..

There really is not much of a pattern either way. I just hope for something that doesnt look like a$$.

i hope they don't jack up the price so much either. One big reason i bought my L is i feel its pretty cheap for all the smiles i get while driving it.
