Lightning01, I just read another post of yours. Absolutely, positively, you will NOT gain 2 pounds of boost by cutting holes in your airbox. You will not gain any boost at all. An open filter will not give you more boost either. Put in a chip. You will FEEL a chip. ABSOLUTELY! Positively!!Unbeilievable difference!

I don't know what happened to some of the pictures that are now a 'FOTKI' graphic.

I am confused as well. I was under the impression that the benefit of the ram air set up was to 1) help the engine breathe better and 2) allow it to get more cool air so as to alleviate the performance problems supercharged applications like the Lightnings tend to have with hot air. With that said, I would think getting more, cooler air into the engine would help with the overall performance of the engine. Although you won't feel much difference, the truck should be more consistent and you should be able to get a little more power (not boost) out of it.

I may be waaaaay of base here, but I'm just adding my $.02.

By the way, what the FOTKI is up with the pictures from that thread you posted DHF? (sorry, I know it was a corny joke, but I couldn't resist ).

andrewjhaley and tliss - a ram air system would 1 way in and 1 way out for the air, basically forcing air into the airbox and the only way it can leave the airbox is through the engine.

If you cut a hole in your airbox and run piping from the outside into, it's a cool air intake b/c the stock airbox still has the fender wall. And yes by bringing cooler air from the outside will help the engine breath better and the cooler air will be more benifical and help create more power.

The thread DHFerguson posted has some good info:
