who has the most miles with chip and pulley from johny lightning? and do you all find your trucks just as reliable starting and running as when they were stock?

You ought to change the topic to "Questions about MODS and longevity." Not fair to point at one tuner, some may take it as a stab against JL and his products. You can group all the chip, pulley and filter vendors/manufacturers together and get a better idea of mileage and "longevity". It sounds like you're looking to do some mods, and are concerned about the breakage factor. We're here to help!

You've got to PAY to PLAY

If you're ready to lay down $ for mods, always remember that there's an outside chance for breakage, and possible warranty denial based on your mods. I knew that from day one. Made the mistake on my old 95 Eclipse turbo, and was denied warranty work based on all the mods I did - problem was i didn't have the $ to start fixing the broken parts (2 blown trannies, blown clutch facing, and misc other headaches)

I for one have put 4000 miles on my mods so far, and <knock wood> the truck still runs like a champ.

no max you are wrong. im not trying to target one maker. im going with jl. im at the stage where their products are the ones i want to use. so my question is specific. i want to know from people who have their products how many miles they have with their products and have there been any problems.

90% of the time I commute, the other 10% - I drive it like I stole it

The only thing I'm worried about are the $200+ tires I'll be wearing through

..and I've made 6 passes down the 1320 on his mods. Love leaving all the Camaros, T/As and Mustangs multiple car lengths behind at the end of the strip

I agree totally with Max ! Gotta love leaving the sports cars in the dust Had my JL filter and chip for around 5k miles and not any problem at all, but that is just me.

Hey Max, the lower pulley will be my next mod, how big a chore was it to install ? I've heard around 2 hrs, but talked to a guy Friday night at the strip and he told me it took him about a day and half.

id rather ask people who actually own the product. its like consumer reports. you get the straight goods without the hype. im not targeting them, im planning on buying their products.

Thumbs up

lightning al.........

I can testify to the quality of JL's products first hand. Johnny has taken my 2000 L from 13.90 @ 99 MPH (pure stock), to 12.72 @ 106.89. This is my daily driver. (75 mile daily work commute) I have 12000 miles on the motor with the mods listed below. This includes at least 50 WOT 1/4 mile passes and countless Stoplight WOT's. Hell yeah, I street race. My kill list of fartpipe rice burners and C-5 vettes looks like the dead sea scrolls

GreazedLightning - The pulley install took about 2-1/2 hours to do (not including a trip to the hardware store). The bolts inside the bell housing were pretty tight, and the main pulley was a @#$%ing p.i.t.a. Make SURE you have a good breaker bar available. You'll need all the help you can get to loosen the bolt on the old pulley. It's a full evening project.

Al:

Have about 10,000 miles on my JL mods. Driven daily to work(70-80 miles). Made 3 dyno runs, 100+ 1/4 mile passes--all at WOT.

No problems--could one happen today? Sure, but I don't think so--the engine has the heart of a pit bull and will 'scratch'* all day long. Went from high 13s to my first 12 Fri nite--12.882@106.18. Am I satisfied?--you bet yer sweet ---!

It took me 45 mins. to change the lower pulley(not counting driving to Sears to get a longer breaker bar and a neighbor to break the one bolt loose)--it's really not a hard job--just breakin' that one bolt beat me. If you've got access to a lift, it should take a half hour.

Btw, I agree with the guys that stood up for the other tuners too. We are fortunate to have a wealth of expertise in our Lightning world.

I have 20k miles on my truck, drive it on the street and to the track. JL and I have driven them to Michigan and he has gone many other places with all of the mods installed. No drivability issues whatsoever. You will have to buy tires more often though.

You can't beat anything to death and expect it to last. You could have a stock truck and abuse it, which in turn will create many problems.

Lightning Al: If i may My truck now has close to 30,000 miles on it.. 1/4 mile at a time! LOL. Ive always driven my truck to all the events and raced it.. (might not be the smartest thing to do) i admit. but need more $ to get a trailor and truck to haul it. but im impressed with how this truck has held up under these conditions. ive never touched a bolt on the engine from day 1. ive just did reg. maintance to the truck oil change ect. i couldn't even begin to count all the time slips i have here at the house but i know its a few! hope this helps with your ? and we look forward in helping you with your goals with your lightning! Question question for JohnnyLightning

Johnny, I bought my Diablo chip directly from DiabloSport off of their website. My question is this: how much do you charge to do a custom burn on a chip and what is the approx. turnaround time? I am now ready for more mods (plugs, single blade tb and 5# or 6# lower) and will need the chip reburned to adjust the air/fuel ratio etc. Thanks in advance.

Question Lower Pulley Change

Why did it take you guys so long to change your lower pulley?, I did mine in 35 minutes, start to finish, and I had never changed a pulley before.

Larry.
