Anybody race a S2000
My friend just bought a brand spankin new Honda S2000, yeah hes 19, anyway hes tryin to tell me that its the quickest thing in the world, tried tellin me he smoked a camaro ss, and that he would smoke me truck which runs about 13.6..i was just wonderin what you L guys thought of that, or how many of you guys have blown these little rice burners away..
I think he meant to say that he PAID as much as a Camaro SS, but only for a Honda. From what I hear, they are pretty good at the twistys..but speaking first hand, they are no comp. for the straight away. Great little cars though.....what's their Max RPM??? 9000?
Damn Rice-burners.
I have a lawyer friend of mine who swears up and down how fast his Silver S2000 is. Meanwhile his wife used to routinely kick his a$$ with her 95 Mustang GT before she sold it. BTW her car only ran 14.07@97.
There are quite a few S2000s that got to WPB Moroso and the fastest one I've seen at a test & tune night is 13.90's.
Take your L and spank him, maybe then he'll realize all a Honda is good for is fuel economy.

I walked on a S2000's already.Came off the line over 2 car lengths and kept increasing my lead.Did a 50 mph roll-on and it wasn't even close.Lightning kicked down and went into warp speed.Next light, he put up both hands and shrugged his shoulders like he didn't know what hit him. That car needs its upper 5 % to stay in the powerband.A good driver is essential and even then they are super "peaky"Another owner I spoke with said he was dissapointed with the car.He said it was a dog down below and felt like he always had to rev the pi$$ out of it to get its potential.I guess with such a small displacement , those engines need to have a high redline to produce good performance numbers.
I ran one out of a toll booth when I only had my mild street chip. It was quick but was no compitition from a stop up to about 80 mph. Then I let him catch up, once they get going they are pritty quick. I have a friend who has one and on the twisties they are pritty fast.
I have also seen them race at NED and they all ran in the 14's

Hehehe
You have to realize, these cars have 1/2 the cyliners you do (4 cylinders)
It also has over 200 HP, which is AMAZING for that small of an engine. Wish Ford could get that much power out of their 5.4L V8's, We'd have more than 400 HP w/o a SC
Anyways, they are coming out with an S2000 that is going to be lighter and have more power (dont know where the power will be placed) coming out in 2002 or 3. Anyways, an L will win over an S2000 anyday.

First of all, I have tons of experience with both so this is by no means a flame. To be honest with you guys, most S2000 owners do not know how or are not willing to drive their cars like they are designed to be driven.(good kill) With that being said, if you don't keep any car in its powerband you are going to lose unless you are racing a significantly slower car. For this car the powerband is the upper 33% , not the upper 5% as someone mentioned. However since the gears are overlapping you have to shift at 9k in every gear so that you will stay in the upper third. If you only take it to 7500 or so when you upshift you will be out of your powerband and thus lose ground. Since I have both I can honestly say that from a stop to 80 the lightning will win 9 out of 10 times stock for stock. (5 of those 9 probably being very bad losses for the s2000) However try a roll from 70 to 120, and I have every confidence that the s2000 would walk the L by a good bit. These cars top out at about 165-170 mph for most people so all this talk about being slow is just BS. The S2000 does not feel fast, but that doesn't mean it is not fast. In a similar fashion, a lot people say that the L doesn't feel as fast as it actual is either. The S2000 is good in a straight line but the twisties are definitely where it likes to be. Now this is all stock for stock, we all know what happens when an L gets chipped and pullied.
Honda data: 1/4 mile in 14.4. 240 HP at 9000 Rpms is pathetic. One of my uncles, who sells Hondas just told me the other day that they are having engine failure problems with them. And he is not one to speak ill of Hondas. Gotta be because you must spin them into the stratosphere to get any power.
I have a good story about a silver S2000, a 6-speed LT1 Vette, and my old '99 black Lightning.
Let's just say that the S2000 was DEAD even w/ the Vette, and the Lightning was exactly 1 car ahead of them both at 115. All were stock. This plays out perfectly w/ my old '95 Vette w/ racing against against my '99 L as well. The L was always 1 fender ahead at 115.
S2000's are quick if they are driven right, and they can pretty much hang w/ our trucks stock for stock. To get them to run fast you have to know how to drive them, and drive them HARD! Don't quote crazy #'s from manufacturers or other track results. We all know L's run quicker than what Ford publishes.
I'll tell more later when I have a chance. It wasn't "street" racing either.
