Smile Intercooler recall

I havn't posted in a long time, but wanted to offer my thanks to all of you fellow Lightning owners out there for staying after Ford's you know what about the intercoolers. They truly are recalling all 99's and 00's. I called the 1 800 248 0186 number, gave them my VIN and BAM. Parts are ordered, the dealership is being notified and should be ready to take it in next week. Way to go guys (and gals). I doubt Ford would have stepped up to the plate like this without your persistent efforts. Gotta love it!

Hell yeah!!!!!!!!

I just called up and made my appointment with them. That was easy enough.

Clonetek to answer your question. From what I just heard there calling it the intercooler manifold assembly. So I would think that the blower would not be swapped out. Thank goodness, I would hate to pull off that pulley on top I just did.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to check out the motor and see what she looks like.

Hey guys ?????????

can they denie this recall at all.

Cause I'm sure they'll freak out when they see the nitrous line, EGR stuff gone, new belt tensionor, intercooler resivoir.

Maybe I should put some stuff back to stock for a little while till they get it all done.

Any Ideas?

I asked my Service writer about it and he congfirmed that he knew about the action but said the parts were backordered. He also clearly stated that the o2 sensors and sparkplugs were NOT included. Unless the truck had been leaking badly they would not be changed

Had mine done last week. In on Tuesday, out on Thursday. Including Wiper motor recall and new spare tire. I had a Wilderness AT 16". No questions asked, just replaced.

I don't notice any performance increase. I'll have it on the dyno on Friday, but it will have a shiny new lower pulley (actually black) on it to test.

what is the story, are the dealers gonna contact us(yeah right huh?) or are we doing the leg work (more likely). I want my IC changed but my dealer isn't aware of the program. What should I do?

That 800 number is a Ford number. They order the parts and notify the dealer of your choice that the parts are on the way! The dealer is then supposed to contact you for an appointment. This is between us and Ford and the dealers are just the stepchildren that have to do the work. Too bad so sad!

It certainly does NOT include the supercharger. I had my supercharger replaced due to a leaking front seal, but they wouldn't replace the intercooler at that time (about 5 months ago) . Too bad, now they have to pull it again. It's really not complicated. I don't know what other parts they are sending and really don't care since mine is not leaking. You can handle that depending on your situation. I just wanted a new intercooler and thanks to all of you noise makers it's free!!! YEAH!!!

god damn it!!!

just got off the phone with ford. Called the number from Radar love. Seems too many people calling already so they are making us wait for the letter and won't do anything without the number code on the letter. Sucks to be us, horray for Radarlove.

They told me that my dealer would have the parts in two days from now. There supposed to call in 5 to 7 days, but screw that. I'm going in tonight to talk to my service guy, Its always good to find a common bond with a service guy. I just hope they don't freak out when they see my engine compartment. I think I might have to meet with the guy who's going to do the swap and show him how to remove allot of my mods. .

Anyway, I'll try and get some pics of the old intercoler and manifold to see whats up with it. I'm thinking that I should see a big difference in my performance with this case I've been leaking pretty bad lately. About a gallon of water every two weeks and I only drive once in a while.

Also for any of you guys that might know? If they find that this intercooler leaked badly enough to cause some type of other engine abuse, is ford supposed to replace the motor as part of the intercooler recall. Even with other mods on the truck? Probably not but I would like to know for the hell of it. Who knows, maybe I could get a whole new 01 motor Yeah Right!!!

Later, JOE

Woo hoo!

Well, I don't know what is different about me but I called the number gave them my VIN and the lady said my parts were on the way! It must be my charming personality, yeah right. I should be getting a call from the dealer within a week to schedule an appointment. Finally gonna get this fixed!
