Question check engine soon

Guys, if I disconnect the battery, should that clear the "check engine soon" light (assuming the problem is fixed)? I put my stock air system back on tonight to send the chip in for a reburn but forgot to plug in the air temp sensor cable. Even after plugging it in, the light was still on.

If you disconnect the battery for a few minutes, and assuming everything else is ok with the truck, the light should go out and stay out. You should only have to have it disconnected for a couple of minutes if that long.

Later,
Roger

Is it true, that to reset the computer, the battery must be disconnected for aprox. 10-12 hours?

Nope, disconnecting it for 5 mins or so should clear it. When you reconnect and turn on the key it goes through a self diagnostic where all the gauges (except boost) peg to the max then return to normal in 2-3 seconds. Also, your radio will also need to be reset.

Noelvm, glad you didnt read this one earlier... I realized right after I sent it that I would probably get nailed with the "try the search" answer

My 99 had the light on when I got it back in May. I took it to a dealer and they updated the computer. I have not had any more problems.

StealthL, I had the same thing happen to me in July. To turn light off, the Dealer says they reprogrammed the computer. I did not really understand their explanation. They said Ford or SVT recommended it as an upgrade. Truck seems to run fine.

Check and make sure you didn't bump a vacuum line loose when you were replacing your stock equipment.

Redlite,
yeh I think the guy I bought mine from knocked the pcv out and ran it a while before he noticed it. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not.

Mike Troyer.........

Superchips dist.(in Computer Chip) recommends to remove the neg. cable, turn the headlight's switch 'on' for 5 mins. or longer(suppose to remove all 'residual' voltage from the ECU), and then--turn the h/l's OFF before reconnecting the neg. cable.

The above is what I remember(not quoting Mike word-for-word) and it is what I do when changing the chip or making other mod changes.
