it was described to me this way, there are 3 catagories of people:
those who act
those who watch
those who wonder what happened

If I am ever on a plane that is hijacked you bet your *** I will try and get everyone capable on that plane to bumrush the hijackers, chances are you gonna die, so why not either die fightning or die with the hottest chick on the plane.

Last time I had someone threaten me with a box cutter I almost lost b/c I was laughing so hard.

That's what I am talking about. Hi-jack my plane with a box cutter, and I will shove it up your ***. All it takes is a couple pissed off Americans on the plane, gonna take more than knives on the plane I am on. I would atleast attempt something, I'm not just gonna sit back and die, oh no.

From the reports I have seen, the hijackers may have been armed only with boxcutters and knives but they made threats about having bombs. That should give even the most aggressive passenger a pause.

If you're a passenger, and the hijackers give out no more information than, "Go to the back and shut up," you may wish to ride it out and hope that your friends and family can get together enough ransom to get you back home.

I certainly don't think the hijackers gave a long Powerpoint presentation about their religious ideology and their mission goal. After all, I've heard that in the underground world of kidnaping for ransom, hostage takers are expected to comply with certain unwritten, self-imposed limitations of behavior, and in places where kidnaping for ransom is common (many South American countries), upon good-faith negotiation and payment of ransom, hostages are usually released not too much worse for wear.

I'm not saying that the passengers in those planes all thought this through in the manner I have said, but I think it's premature and very unfair to say they were cowardly, or they should have done something else. It is a great tragedy, and our thoughts should be on the grieving friends and family, and just retribution to the guilty party.
