Anyone else afraid to drive your Lightning?
I really only drive the L to car shows and cruises in the midwest and have racked up 3100 miles on the 01 since April. Whenever I meet a fellow L owner, they are always telling me their 99 or 00 L has 5000 miles or something similar. Now I am afraid to take the L anywhere because I want to keep the miles down. I haven't drove it in almost 3 weeks - since I got home from the woodward dream cruise in Detroit. I also picked up a rock chip on the front fascia on my Detroit trip. Anyone else have the same problem as me?
At first I couldnt stay out of it.Now I"m starting to shy away from extra miles.I got mine Feb.19.I have almost 7,000 miles. The whole time I'm driving it ,I'm aware of the odometer.I also monitor every sound and the gauges.I constantly check fluids and tire pressure.
Come to think of it,I dont really enjoy this anymore.

I say F**K IT!! DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT hehe. Im making the payments each month not to let her sit in the garage and collect dust hehe. Not to mention the money i spent in mods for her. Only time i dont take her out is in the rain cant have fun with her in the rain and of course snow. Besides whenever im not driving my lightning im wishing that i was nothing like these trucks puts a smile on my face everytime i drive it.

DRIVE YOUR TRUCKS! Nobody on this board will live long enough to see these become collector cars. Mine is a daily driver. I even actually use the bed to haul stuff. Had a 1000 pounds of marble back there not long ago. Had about 500 pounds of coolers and misc stuff last weekend. You are missing out on the best reason to own a rig like this. DRIVING! If you want a 5-10 year investment sell it and buy Microsoft and Intel stock.
I think ATIDominator may have a good point. I just hate seeing my L get messed up before my eyes. Not that it matters, but I've only driven my Z28 less than 400 miles in over 4 years because of rock chips and other drivers trying to slam into it all the time. I guess I should lighten up a little.

So are you saying KEEP my Microsoft stock and keep the miles off the Lightning
?? I didn't think you meant that. Drive the truck, modify the **** out of your truck, (After your warranty runs out ofcourse) And ENJOY

I guess some might think I am afraid to drive it, since I have had 2000 L for 11 months now and only put on 4000 miles.
But... it's not exactly like that. I am very fortunate that I have a beater 92 S-10 to drive to work and when it rains, so the L is for pleasure drives and driving to work once or twice a week. It rained here alot in late July and all of August. Also keep in mind that my L has been in the shop or waiting to go into the shop for about 5 weeks in these 11 months of ownership.
1. Paint defect from factory - 2 days in shop
2. repair fender ding from a car- 2 days
3. musty AC, 2 times in shop, 1 day each
4. wiper recall, clunk TSB, badly needed front-end alignment- 4 days in shop, 4 weeks waiting in my garage while the dealer jerked me around.

I hear ya, brother. I still regret driving mine the first year before I decided to build if for show. I put on 12,000 miles.
Now, I rack up maybe 200 miles a month average. Just hate to see it get messed up.
For the guys that drive them like trucks, more power to you. Trying to keep them perfect is just plain exhausting.

Keep the beater for the winter....
Drive the Lightning while you can... at least here in Michigan... They just finished a few more roads, so we've only got a couple of months left before they start falling apart.
I don't make enough to pay for a large red paperweight, and I have no interest in keeping it as a show queen.... too much fun to drive. 10,000 miles and counting.

A little Rule of life I live by....
Cars are made to be driven
Wine is made to be drank
Guns are made to be shot
Toys are made to played with
Life is not a spectator sport. Drive that bad boy.

I agree with you about driving the trucks just not in the rain or any bad weather. I mean driving a stock lightning was bad enough in the rain when that charger kicked in but a modded one like mine now forget it. The first day i put my PSP pulley and chip on felt like the front end of the truck wanted to lift up. and besides they arent that fun to drive in the rain and no weight in the back either. I mean i gun it now at a light and i have th *** end kick out until it shifts to second thats on dry pavement to. I just think to much can go wrong when you have that much power and drive in the rain not just with our trucks any car with that much power and its even worse with our trucks no weight in the back.
