Anyone else afraid to drive your Lightning?
It took a month for me to rack up 2300 miles and I don't plan on stopping. I love to drive this truck and if it has 100K in 2 years so be it. I didn't buy a $30K truck to stick on my wall like a poster and I don't have any intentions of giving it up just yet.
Spend Those Miles Wisely..
Took delivery on May 31, 2000. Currently at 3300 miles. Looks and smells like new in every way. How's yours doing?
Whenever I want to drive a Lightning (and the roads aren't salty or wet), I do exactly that. When I need to brainlesly commute to work or pick up a load of groceries, I take the 'mule.
I also travel a LOT on business. That also helps.

You only live once (well depending on who you talk to
)
Due to my business travel I've only managed 11,500 miles in 16 months, but sure drive it every chance I get. You really appreciate it when you've spent the week driving an econobox rental...

I got my truck on April 17, 2001 with 172 miles on the odometer. It was sitting in the lot over winter!!!
I have 11,900 miles on her now, And I still drive her everywhere even though I drive my Honda to work.
My personal money pit: $4000.00 in two months
Bring on the MODS!!!!!!!!!

Either way I got 35,600+miles on mine and I drive it whenever I want to! The nice thing is knowing that i don't have to drive it in the snow or rain, but that doesnt mean I wouldn't. I just love to drive this truck, even if I have nowhere to go with it!

I'll be truthful, I only read the first two posts. Here is MO none the less. I cannot justify paying $3X thousand dollars to let the GREATEST truck/muscle car hybrid ever sit in my garage.(I park outside). I will drive this ****in thing til the odometer turns over!!!! Thank you very much!!!
I'm finding myself driving the L a lot more than I planned. I've got a pretty heavily modded '92 Z28 that I used to be completely wild about, but it's been sitting a lot lately. Took it out today so I could run without the T-tops and take advantage of the sunny day (no rain)
and found myself thinking about the L the whole time.

This is my first brand new vehicle and is my daily driver. Since April 5, 2001 I have put 9300 miles on the truck. The first chip was heart rendering, but you get used to it.
Drive it in snow (they don't salt the roads here), and rain. Use it for work and play. Tow, haul, and haul ***.
The only problem has been the clunk which I fixed with Herb's washers.
The truck is a grin a minute. I have never owned a vehicle that got this much attention...... both going down the road and sitting still. Just driving to town for parts makes me smile (I own an auto repair and towing business).
Why would you just want to look at the truck sitting in the garage? When she is sitting, she isn't whining

LIGHTNING ENVY...
OH MY GOD, THIS TOPIC HORRIFIED ME ENOUGH TO SPARK A -VERY- RARE POSTING.
I'LL ADMIT IT, I HAVE A CASE OF LIGHTNING ENVY...PROBLEM IS, I WANT A LIGHTNING 4X4 (THAT AND I CANT AFFORD AN 'L'). HOWEVER, I MUST ADMIT, I DO LOVE MY TRUCK, AND TAKE PAINS TO KEEP IT NICE, BUT IT'S STILL INTENDED FOR USE.
THERE IS SOME MIDDLE GROUND SOMEWHERE HERE, OTHERWISE NONE OF US WOULD HAVE MADE THE EXTRA SACRIFICE TO DRIVE WHAT WE LIKE, RATHER THAN THE LEAST EXPENSIVE ALTERNATIVE THAT WOULD FULFILL OUR NEEDS. THIS EXTENDS TO THE MODS THAT WE CHOOSE TO LAVISH ON OUR RIDES, NO MATTER WHAT THEY ARE.
BOTTOM LINE, YOU GOT IT 'CAUSE YOU LOVE IT, SO USE IT. NOTHING PAINS ME MORE THAN SEEING SOMEBODY WITH SOMETHING SO NICE THAT THEY'RE AFRAID TO USE IT THE WAY IT WAS INTENDED TO BE USED!

It's called showboating, flossing, fluanting, etc
Plus when I get a winter beater I'll have something else to drive which will save the L a few thousand miles a year.

I must really be scared. my 99' just turned over 10,000 miles.
