Anything special about the NASCAR F-150?
Well...
Master':
Depends on how you define "special". If you're talking about appearance, it has a lot of goodies, most notably the NASCAR-look wheels and RYL tires, Roush exhaust tips, stickers and badges, and perhaps some other unique items. The interior has some stitching and other nice touches.
If you're talking about go-fast stuff, it lacks. You basically have a 2-valve SOHC 4.6 Triton and an open differential to the rear. Perhaps a gear, but I'm not sure. It doesn't make a lot of power, but still doesn't hook up worth a crap.
My bud drives a fairly well-loved one here in Cincy and I've spent a lot of time around it. We took it to the 'strip once and he ran 16.4's at 83 MPH in pretty decent air. I was about 2 tenths slower than career best that day in the 'Bolt, so figure about 16.2's, at best, if bone stock. It will take a LOT (a blower, nitrous, and locking axle, at the very least) to get one to run with a Lightning.
A good looking truck, though, possibly somewhat collectible, and good for smoky one-wheel peels.

Not Quite, My Friend...
Noel:
The NASCAR edition was available with either a manual (5-speed) or auto (E4OD or 4R70, can't remember which), with the majority shipped with the auto. Not many out there with the manual.
And forgive me, please, for correcting (note - not "arguing with") you. I'm cringing in anticipation of the beee-otch slap as I type this. Your fearsome reputation precedes you, sir. Not a bad rep to have on this site, in my opinion.

I read an article on one that has his modded up to run 12.3's on the 1/4mi.
It was in Truckin' ... he felt compelled to mod if after the Lightnings where out and about.

Yep, there's one in Truckin' w/ the 32v cobra 4.6, forged pistons, ported heads, 12lb vortech, 50 shot nos, and a t-56 six speed. The mag says he runs a 116 trap speed...seems a littl low. He does have a sweet looking roll cage setup, though.
When i was out truck hunting in late '98 a dealer near me wanted to sell me one brand new for $18,500 ... I passed it up because i knew it was a turd and was waiting to buy a Lightning... The dealer told me to buy this truck and slap a s/c on it and it would smoke a Lightning...LOL... I told him that for a extra $10K i would much rather have a Lightning that has a warranty and not a slow unwarrantied POS... I don't like the yellow tires or the fact that it isn't a flareside... If they made a flareside that might have looked better... The dealer also told me that the exhaust and the suspension were the same as the Lightning's... They'll do anything to sell a car/truck... He also fired up that beast and the exhaust sounded decent but the truck with only 50 miles on it smoked for 20 seconds...

oh ya ....they are bad a$$ ... i blew one away @ r.c.r. in san antonio , they guy had just bought it and brought it to the track , for some reason he just wouldn't leave it alone , he wanted to race me ... i told him that he did not want to race me because i had a v-6 truck and didn't want to have to put 2 truck lenghts on him ... he laughed and got in his truck , we lined up and i beat him by 3 1/2 truck lenghts 15.94 - 16.46 ... i warned him after we got done racing he simply went back to the pits , picked up his friend and i have never seen him or the truck again .... that same night , got my a$$ whipped by a 1999 lightning with a superchip and pulley ... not pretty 15.92 - 12.86
