Question 100 Octane

I've been advised to add a few gallons of 100 octane to my tank before I flip my chip to side two. Found some 100 at the local airport but it is LOW LEAD. Will using this fuel cause me any problems?

Thanks-
Mark

I 'think' any amount of lead will attack the cats.

Try a search on Torco fuel concentrate--many rave about its properties. Seem to remember the HALO guys use it?

AK,
DON"T DO IT!
As the owner of a piston aircraft engine overhaul shop, we deal with this question in reverse everyday. The 100LL or low lead as they call it actually has 10 times the lead in it that regular unleaded auto fuel contains. The piston aircraft engines are still 1950's and 60's technology, they are aircooled and require lead to lubricate the valves.
I have employees who have made the mistake of running 100LL in their cars. Your cats will most likely self distruct. We had one guy who blew his in-tank fuel pump as well.

You can get 100 octane unleaded at certain 76 stations that won't degrade the cats or other emissions equipment. Here in So. California it runs about $5/gal.

There's a station not far from where I live that sells Sunoco "racing fuel", which I've been told is 100 octane. Since it's so close, I bought a 100 octane Thrasher chip for my GN and installed and usually fuel up with that Sunoco. It's $3.339/gal currently. If you're in Gwinnett, Hall, Jackson, Banks, or even Forsythe county, it's the Kangaroo station off Exit 16 I-985.

Here is a link to a Sunoco GT 100 locator... Just put in your state, and it will let you know the closest location.

Angry

Unfortunately, Alaska is not an option in the locator. Somebody has got to have some in Anchorage.
