I got "fixed" today!
I got "fixed" today!
The truck.
Went to Walnut Creek Ford today and they installed the new I/C fix. It's a nice looking piece 10 rows instead of 9. Theoretically should be better, we will have to see if this one stays together. I was very lucky as the leak was VERY minimal, so I caught it very early.
To all Bay area L owners (I live 120 miles from Walnut Creek), I cannot say enough about Walnut Creek Ford, they did a great job and were very accomodating. The tech who worked on my L said that he has worked on a Red one that comes in (don't be shy-speak up) he says, " Its got a chip and some other mods, it hauls ***". So, I asked him about chips, he says no problem - NOW THAT WAS THE TECH, NOT THE SERVICE WRITER. Anyway just wanted to say thanks to Jeff S for recommending them. It was a long (120miles) drive, but I feel that they were worth it, very knowledgable and very helpful. Don't wait call and make an appointment. It cannot be good for your motor to be on a glycol diet.

RedNeck,
Do you have their number? My dealer service blows. I still am waiting on a part for my garage opener holder in the ceiling console that didn't come with the truck. Does Walnut Creek treat you with the service you deserve as an SVT customer. If so then I will take my business out to them and they can do all my warranty work and such.

I was lucky enough to run into my service guy at the bar one night. I may have had to spend about $65 on shots and beer. But in the long run it will pay off. Thats the way to all service guys heart. Get them drunk and your in like a dirty shirt. He was pointing out little things that he can get fixed for me and was informing me what mods they look for on warrenty. He may have been drunk and just spittin **** to me, but i believe him.
I too have been to Walnut Creek Ford for i/c fix and was treated great. Talk to Dan Costello in service and he will take care of you. Brad

I did get to look at the old I/C. It was not bad, but I did get to mine VERY early. It had small pin holes developing along the solder joints. The Tech told me he has seen them VERY bad. They checked the impellers on the S/C - looked good - Overall a very good experience.

Just ordered the "fix" today. Do they change your plugs and o2 sensors when they do this fix? My service writer said if the TSB says to change them they will, otherwise no. I am under the impression that the former replacement for the intercoolers told them to change the plugs and sensors, but not sure about the "fix"???
I got "fixed" last week. The Service Dept. elected not to change, or even check, the plugs, O2 Sensors, catalytic converters or perform a compression test on the cylinders.
The truck is running as bad, or worse, than when I brought it in, sputtering and bucking at slight throttle input. I'm scheduled for a test ride by the chief mechanic next Tuesday. If he thinks there is a problem, then they will start repairs on the truck.
By the way, I questioned the chief mechanic prior to picking the truck up after the intercooler replacement if the above items had been replaced. His response was no, but if it needs rework he will make his loaner truck available to me. I sure hope he does, cause four man-hours and 80 miles travel to shuttle the truck is getting to be a pain.

My Lightning has been there many times along with a few other trucks I've owned. I've recommended them often on this board and NLOC. I've dealt with Jose a few times but generally ask for Vic or Theresa. Theresa is a Babe and generally has my Lightning washed and detailed before I pick it up. If it needs to stay overnight, Vic will make sure it gets put on a rack (raised) so in a garage that has no other cars. He handled my wife's F250SD recently, and when he found out her day wasn't going well, he made sure it was cleaned up (washed in and out) hoping to brighten her spirits. She was very happy when she picked it up.
Several times, I've run out of time to return the rental cars so I just leave the car at WC Ford. They return it and mail me the receipt for my records.
