Horrible Dyno #'s

My baseline dyno (completely stock) was 342 SAE Horsepower.

My best dyno (after mods below) was 368 SAE Horsepower.

JDM chip / filter - warm weather program
JDM Throttle body
JDM Water pump
Bassani headers / exhaust
JDM Electric fan
NGK Spark plugs

To say that I am irritated by these numbers is a major understatement!!!!! Close to $6k invested for a net 26 horsepower. Any suggestions?????? I thought that I would be at least in the upper 380's!!!

Currently being installed:
JDM torque converter
JDM line mod valve
JDM oil breather cap

On order:
Lower Pulley
75hp NOS kit

Question $6000???

JDM chip= (flip?) $390
JDM filter= $395
JDM water pump= $105
JDM T-body= $495
Bassani= ?$1500?
JDM fan= $395
NGK's= ?$32.00?

if my math is correct that equals around $3300 dollars, not $6000, unless you paid A LOT for install labor.

not to be a smarty-pants, but how much were you expecting?, I mean the chip and air filter are your major mod, how much did you expect to get from a water pump and an electric fan? everyone here probably told you that the exhaust was worth about ZERO horsepower, and the throttle body too for that matter, even if the T-body does make 7hp or whatever, is it worth if for the money? thats all relative. how much is anybody getting from some spark plugs? this one I'd really like answered, but for 32 bucks it's worth a try.

seriously though, what kind of dyno was it, what MPH is your truck running in the quarter mile? you don't race dyno sheets, you race at the drag strip.

later,
chris

Talking Also, you could look at it this way....

on the brighter side, 368 rear wheel hp should be somewhere between 423-460HP at the flywheel this is nothing to sneeze at.

just trying to make you feel better.

chris

You have some impressive mods but the only one that is giving you your real HP is his chip, you could of spent $275 and had the same results.I went through all of this on my 99 like you are and i have learned what mods make a difference and what don't to put on my 01!

Matt
Silver 01

Chris-

Lower pulley = 239.00
Torque converter = 995.00
Line Mod = 89.00
Throttle Body = 495.00
Electric Fan = 385.00
Drive Shaft Loop = 89.00
Breather Cap = 30.00
Water Pump = 105.00
Bassani full setup = 1,650.00
Chip N Filter = 390.00 + 395.00

Total Parts = 4,862.00

Installation (everything except pulley, torque converter, line mod valve) = 1,642.50

Installation (torque converter, line mod valve) = 750.00

Total cost (except installation of pulley) = 7,254.50

I realize that most of these mods result in little hp, however, I was under the impression that I would gain 35-40 rwhp from a chip & filter. If the throttle body is good for 7 hp, then my chip and filter resulted in (368-342-7) 19 hp!!!!!!!!!! That is if the other mods gave absolutely 0 gain. The shop uses a dynojet, and I have yet to run at the track, and with these #'s I am not inclined to!!!! My goal was to have a 12.5 - 12.7 1/4 mile truck without NOS - High 11's with NOS. Doesn't look like that is going to happen!!!!!

Dave,

Your engine is still a little tight. Let it break in and you'll see a big difference at 5k miles. Your only real hp mods are the chip and filter and that got you close to 25hp. Not bad at all. T/B, plugs, fan, oil breather cap, and exhaust gains are minimal at best. Although I haven't seen any numbers, i'm sure the pulley will get you quite a bit more.

Sorry to hear that you are frustrated. I had my 01 dyno'd w/ 2000 miles with a JL chip,ram-air,lwr pulley, and flowmasters and came up with 393 hp and 510 tq at rear wheels using a Dyno Jet dyno. Since then I have added a PI convertor and power coller and it made a huge difference but I hven't been back to the dyno. Good Luck, -Neil

You should have the chip tuned on the Dynojet. It may by the the chip is not optimized for all the mods. I could also be the weather conditions, but that should have been taken into account in the corrected #'s.

My 00 made 377 RWHP with a custom tuned Swanson Chip and Pro=M mass air filter. There should be a bunch of Hp locked up in the chip.
