Question Need help launching at the strip

This past week, I was finally able to get out to the track (Milan) and run my truck. This was the first time I'd ever run anything. Temp was in the high 80's, with high humidity. Best time I was able to get was a 14.30 with a 2.18 60' time. From talking to the other L owners there, everyone seemed to be down on their times by nearly .5. My truck is nearly stock, just a Magnaflow and K&N panel filter, neither of which will give me little if any more power.

I kept experimenting with the launch, anywhere from an idle up to 1200rpms, then punching it when the third amber lit. All resulted in wheelspin off the line. I even tried rolling into the throttle instead of just punching it. That gave me one of my worst 60 ft times of the night.

So what's everyone's secret to a better launch? I don't plan on changing the tires to MT's or the like, so the stock F1's it is.

I found that if I did a small burnout on my F1s and launched at 1000rpms and I got pretty good 60' times: 1.995-2.013.

Get MT ET streets or a 4 cylinder engine. Maybe you could just pull a couple of spark plug wires. You can lower your air pressure to about 28 but you are not going to get traction with the F1's especially on a hot day on a hot track. On stock tires just do enough burn out to get the water off. Don't heat up the f1s.

Milan is a lost cause.

The track prep is usually lousy and if I get a 60' better than 2 secs there, I'm thrilled.

My 60' times on slicks at Milan are comparable to what I get at Norwalk on F1s, with the same launch.

BadDog, you're not the first person I've heard say that Milan's not the best track. I remember seeing them spray VHT a couple of times. That didn't seem to help. Looks like a trip to Norwalk is in order. I guess it was the combination of a bad track and bad weather.

What BadDog said!

I hook up better on the freakin street than at milan.....seriously TRY IT!!

I can floor the truck from a stop on a regular street without spining..but Milan...I spin even if I ease to 1/2 throttle.

Drive around the water, brief burn to clean the tires. Big smokey burnout will not help. Quick traction test then stage. My best has come from leaving at an idle and easing the throttle down. 1.94 on F1's.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Seems I'm doing everything pretty much the same as you all. I'm sure with a bit of practice, I can bring the times down some. Also getting on a better track.

PS. The best part of the night was beating a WS6. It was his wifes car and just figuring out the 6speed. Got him by a .1 the one time we lined up against each other.
