What tranny in that blown Stang?

I keep hearing the rumors that a "Terminator" or "Super Cobra" Mustang will be bulit as soon as next year. Supposedly it will be a 4.6 2V with a roots type blower like the Lightning.

So now I have some questions, namely, what in the hell are they going to use for a transmission in that thing? Currently the Mustang GT auto is a 4R70W and the 5-speed in the GT, Bullit, and Cobra is the Tremec 3650.

Neither one of these trannys can handle the torque this "Terminator" motor will produce. So, how are they going to make this car?

Transmission problems caused by massive amounts of torque almost killed the whole Gen 2 Lightning project. We have the detuned engines and the 1-2 shift, 4-cylinder drop out shifts to prove it. Nevermind the numerous partially destroyed 4R100's in chipped L's that do away with the 4-cylinder drop.

The Roush Stage III and Saleen S281's both already feature SOHC (2valve) 4.6 engines with Roots style or Eaton superchargers, both of these cars use the factory Ford (Tremec) 5 speed if i'm not mistaken. The "terminator" if produced doesn't sound like anything groundbreaking, but it should be plenty fun.

BTW, I think that both the supercharged roush and the supercharged saleen stangs are also available with automatics, AOD-E (or 4R70W).

later,
chris

Terminator is supposed to be a 4.6 4V if it is built.
With the Eaton Roots SC.
Has the Cobra R / Viper 6 speed.

pvteye, thanks for the info. I have to agree, if they are gonna build this thing, might as well use the DOHC 4.6 and a 6-speed from the Cobra R. But wow, that's gonna make it costly.

The more I think about it, the less I believe this will happen. I will believe it when I see it.

from the information that I have seen, the terminator will NOT be a 4V Cobra motor, but a supercharger 2valve 4.6. and no, I don't know why they would do it that way. again, still speculation at this point... we'll just have to wait and see.

Autoweek....

According to Autoweek, it's 32V 4.6 with the Eaton and the 6 speed Cobra R trans.

God only knows what they're going to charge, but Autoweek says its a done deal for production.

They could be wrong, but....

I don't know what this new stang will weigh, but I'm sure it's ALOT less than our L's.

Jerry Green, Ford's Motorsport Manager, confirmed that this will be a 4.6 32V S/C motor, at the WFC4.
