We have tried all the chips that are made for the L but one, and only because we have seen some nasty damage dont by it on a few trucks. After alot of testing on the dyno and track; the best over all chip for our truck was the PSP chip. Though each chip had it's own ups and downs compaired to the others.

At the time all chips had the latest program of their tuners. Since going with PSP, we have gotten Sal new program and like it even better.

Also take into consideration of how light/heavy people's trucks are and the elevation and climate they race in. These 3 variables can make a big differance in ET.

It really all comes down to who's chip you like best.

Thumbs up

As of right now(this may change) JDM has the best program for the 2001 Lightning. His brand new 2001 with only a few mods is running 12.7's. Which aint half bad!

Bolt Action-

The PSP 4-Way can be programmed however you want it - Stock, Street, Race........ My race program requires higher octane fuel, while my street & stock programs do not. If you plan on running nitrous, they can program your chip accordingly. I don't ever plan on running nitrous, so I did not want a nitrous program on my chip. PSP is also in the process of developing a Valet program which will limit your vehicle to 3000 rpm, 30 mph, or something like that - good for the wife.

Good luck,

Dave

PSP or Second Place

If running in 2nd is satisfying to you buy anything you want, but if you are interested in the best buy a PSP Chip.

If you are really smart you won't just buy a chip but will buy what you want to make your truck run how you intend to use it. Street Machine, Weekend Drag Racer, Weekend Autocrosser, or any two of the above. Be sure and take into consideration where you live and what conditions you will be doing either events. There is no RIGHT fix unless you have a goal set you want to acheive. Knowing this will be of great help in being completely satisfied with your trucks total performance.

There are to many options available for and one fix. Weight reduction, bigger coolers for SuperCharger air, Race gas, different rear ends, tire sizes and types, ram air kits, traction bars, exhaust systems, weight transfer, etc. Know what you want before you go after any parts to acheive that goal.

Race fuels?

When you guys say "race fuel", do you mean 100 unleaded or higher octane than that? If higher, what about the 02 sensors?; will they be damaged?
BTW, I like the idea of valet mode because you can never trust anyone to NOT hotrod your baby when you are not around. ie: When I was buying my '01 last Friday evening, the detailers took it out to fuel her up and I watched from the showroom floor as they smoked the tires out of the dealership on the street! I was soo pissed that somebody, who I don't even know, was just joyriding the crap out of my new toy, which I hadn't even driven yet! I began to think about having it in various shops for: exhaust work, hood painting and install, stereo install, which will all lead to a curious little joyride by whomever eventually. Ya know what I mean?

My next question is this: for service such as oil change, brakes, etc, do you take the chip completely out of the computer for fear of them knowing your modification could potentially be blamed on any future breakage?

I also have a JDM chip on my 2001 and it is flat out awsome. I am sure the other chips are great too, but I think Jim shifting stratagies are very good, and should allow the transmision to last.

I have 11,000 miles, I have been to the track about 8 times, and the truck is still shifting awsome. My gas millage has gone from 14 mpg up to 18-19 mpg.
