Need a honest opinion about ordering a CHIP!!!
Just curious; What are the selections on the 4-way chip? Does any of them require different fuel or running nitrous?

yeah, this topic has been done quite a bit, but here's my .02cents.
I have a 2001L, bone stock in relatively high heat and humidity it ran a 14.03@98.86mph backed up only 27minutes later by a 13.94@99.13. This was a Friday night, the very next morning I installed my JDM (superchip) flip chip. I drove to the track and ran a 13.46@101. Now that is almost exactly .5 or 1/2 second with only a chip! EVEN BETTER, this was just the STREET side of the filp chip!!! I was in such a rush when I got to the track (late as always) that I didn't have time to get race fuel and totally forgot to flip to race program.
Now for Sunday, I had more time and got the race gas, flipped the chip to RACE program, etc. There is one additional variable here though, Jim from JDM loaned me a K&N stock replacement (panel style) air filter (actually belonged to another L owner I think, Mike from Va Beach?). anyway, this time my truck ran a 13.28@102.90mph!!! this is awesome, with one mod and a borrowed filter I cut over 7 tenths of a second off of my bone stock e.t. and added 4mph to my trap speed (the real indicator of Horsepower)!!!
Needless to say, I am very pleased with Jim&Julie at JDM. By the way, they were both there on this particular weekend with many other JDM customers (June 22/23/24) as it was the Fun Ford Weekend at Virginia Motorsports Park. I think Jim's personal black 2001 ran like a 12.70 on street tires!!!! this is awesome, some other people went 12.70's as well with the fastest Gen2 L running in the 12.60's (on slicks).
Anyway, that is my experience, so I hope it helps. One other bit of info though, I have similar stories about satisfied customers from all of the "big 3" chip places PSP(autologic?), JDM(superchip), JL(diablo?). Here is my only question, lots of people here claim to have owned several chips or claim to have "tried them all" in hopes of finding the "fastest one" well, this seems like a good idea (although expensive) but the problem is that, the tuner people seem to be constantly updating their programs, so just because you try somebodies chip and get x results, that doesn't mean that two weeks from now they wont come out with a better program. for example like I said above, I received my chip at work on a Friday, I installed it saturday morning, well that same day I met Jim from JDM who told me that he had a new 2001 program that I could try that he hadn't released yet. so even though my chip was only one day old (actually only a few hours) there was already a faster program available. this is sortof an extreme example, but my point is this, just because somebody says I've tried PSP/JDM/JL and then I bought a different chip and it is better than my old one, they aren't neccessarily comparing apples to apples. The chip they bought last year from whoever probably shouldn't be as good as the chip from whoever else they bought from last week. there has been more time for research and development and testing and experimentation with what works best. understand what I'm trying to say? so when buying a chip maybe you should look at how much it costs to reflash it. some are Free, some are not. I know this is already long and drawn out
but I doubt that most of these people who say "I've tried them all and X is best" have actually done back to back dyno comparisons or raced back to back to test the chips and see, even if they did, other variables like temp/baro pressure/engine temp/etc can affect results (especially at the track bad launch, etc).
Anyway, Sorry so long and drawn out.
This is just my opinion and experience, I hope it helps you make a decision. and I hope you enjoy your truck nomatter what you decide.
sincerely,
chris haynie

Chip
Honestly I think all the chips are pretty close in performance. To me it all comes down to customer service. I run a JL diablo street chip in my 01 , and I'm very happy with it. Even more I was happy that I received it quick. I never ran the truck in stock form so I could not compair a before and after time wise. I'm sure not going to pull the chip out to test at the track, because it is a night and day difference. At WFC I ran consistant 13.30's. So far a best of 13.20 @ 105.9. I will however probably switch to the JL Diablo switch chip as soon as it comes out. I've only spoke with Johnny from JL, and Sal from PSP, and it's a toss up between the two both are great to deal with.
