How much distance does it take to reach 147 MPH (approx)?
evo, You are 100% correct I’m currently running TOYO Proxes S/T 305/60 R18 120V, I think the tire is about 3” taller than the originals and my Speedo underestimates my real speed by up to 7% or their abouts, (once; I checked the wheel calculator, I forgot what it said) it also underestimates distances.. I used them mostly to increase my gas mileage plus they are “cheap”, the tire is really bad for drag racing, it dos not hook, it’s ok in the rain and it is not excessively loud, it fills out the entire wheel well, and I like the look of the oversize tires in the rear, with the stock ones up in front…
silversvt04 you introduce another point, I have also read that some guys before they ran the ¼ mile, they did a massive burnout, then they hit the rev-limiter (or some sort of boost dump), and ran upwards in the 18ths or higher in the 1/4, I think if someone did a search or remembers reading this type topics, they would chime in!

“azmidget91 looking at you calculations” If one mile equals = 5,280’ and the googled search is 102 mph for the ¼ mile 1,320’ (102 MPH “kind of slow if you ask me”)
Then 1,320’ feet traveled to reach 102 MPH (1,320’ divided by speed 102) then it took 12.94118’ to accelerate 1 MPH.
So if acceleration is a constant (ignoring drag and so on) then 145 MPH times 12.94118’ feet per mile it would take 1,876.471 feet to hit 145 MPH or 0.355392 of a mile.
Equation:
(Speed at ¼ mile) divided by distance (1,320’) = (Acceleration in feet per mile 12.94118’) then we multiply the feet per mile times our Desired Top End (145 MPH) = Total Feet Traveled (1,876.47’) then we divide by feet per mile (5,280’) equals 0.355392 of a mile traveled.

Interesting. I was thinking I should do over 150 using that calculation but I'm sure wind drag has to play some part in slowing these mammoths down from their potential compared to similar power in a lighter sleeker car.

Timing will be 15 degrees and octane will be VP Fuels 103 unleaded.

135 MPH on radar gun (although speedo said 139) in searing record heat down here in Miami, also with full weight, ice chest and the wife riding shot gun (she only weighs 105lbs). I know in cooler weather by myself it would probably hit 140mph. I'm fine with it. The truck runs real srong in the quarter mile which is what matters most to me.
I believe that top end if I had forever to get there would be definitely be well over 150. It was a new experience for me, I had fun. At least the junk rod motor didn't grenade.

Ok, so you got what you got!!! I’m still amazed, I wonder now how many miles it took me to floor the speedometer, it sure did not seem like I was WOT for more than 30 Seconds MAX…..
I guess when you’re adrenalin is flowing time seems to slow down, and I must have been on the WOT for much longer than it felt…. However here in Houston it’s difficult to max the Speedo, during rush hour for several miles at a time, I have done it and it did not seem like it was miles….

Aside from more HP, one of the key mods to getting higher top speed quicker is suspension and lowering the truck. I've got the old Roush Racing suspension which leaves me about 4" off the ground at my lowest point. I've flirted with 160+ on road tracks a few years ago (GPS measured - have to love a track that has a 1780ft straight into a nice 14d banked curve leading into a 3740ft straight). Stan routinely is over 180 on his Open Road racing.
