Matt,
I went through the same process you are now in. I decided on silver & went to the dealer, who had a silver, black & red in stock. When I saw the black I was won over to it. I thought @ 45 I was too old to have another black vehicle to worry with. I am very pleased with the black, & since I bought mine, two more 2001 L's are in town, both silver. Even though mine would still have been the first 2001 L around, I'm glad I chose black, or we'd have 3 2001 L's in the county & all would be silver. Good luck.

I once read insurance statistics that showed silver vehicles were more likely to be involved in collisions where the other car was at fault and that silver cars received the fewest number of moving violations. The theory was that silver is less eye catching and that silver vehicles are less likely to stand out on concrete freeways. Seems plausible.
Black and red will give the best shine when clean and waxed because the darker colors reflect better. Silver shows the least dirt and swirls but doesn't reflect as well when waxed.
Silver 91 LX 5.0, silver "00 Lightning, and wife's silve '00 V6 Honda Accord coupe-all driven as enthusiasts like us drive-no moving violations(or accidents, knock on wood).
The lines are more distinct(as Twiztid noted) on the silver. Go with your first instinct and you'll be happy.

L-Matt, You may want to put your home city and state under your profile's location so people can help you find a local dealer.
I have had both silver and black cars. Silver will stay cleaner looking longer, but it also will reflect the sun off the hood into the cab. I looked at the Silver Lightnings but I drive into the sun on my comute everyday. I could not handle the reflections. Black is great looking, but I spent every Sat. morning washing and waxing my black car. At 55 I don't want to be doing that every week, so I bought a white lightning. It is the best for showing all the bugs you collect. I guess each color has it advantages and disadvantages.
Which ever you chose, drive saftly and enjoy it. Just my .02.

Cool

If you don't put swirl marks in your paint then you won't have to worry about getting them out. Always hand wash even if if means a few extra days of being dirty. Don't ever use terry cloth towels to dry or take wax off. Don't use terry cloth towels PERIOD. Hand wax and use cloth diapers to polish.

InHarmsWay...

The White glares more of the sun than the silver. Plus when its really bright out its much harder to look at! When really clean though its like looking in a mirror. So if the sky is pretty and blue it reflects on the paint. I have had 4 2000 Model cars... a Performance Red '00 Mustang, a Artic White '00 Mustang, a Silver '00 Lightning, and my car I have now. I must say, I liked the Red when I first got it but it showed swirls and dirt pretty bad.

The White stang didn't show those and it washed up nice looking. The Silver when dirty, like black coat of dirt on it wouldn't show the dirt or swirls overall probably easiest to clean but it didn't shine like I would have liked it to. It reflected the metallic in the paint but didn't shine. The White I have now, I am happy with so far

Mike
