L vs. WS6?
L vs. WS6?
So me and my friend are on his computer last night looking at pictures of WS6 Firebirds. Then we spot a picture (seen below) and we get into an argument about which would win: The WS6 or the L? I'm a Ford guy, so I'm all for the L, and he owns a Firebird 3.4L so you know who hes rooting for. He's saying.."blah blah, its a truck, the car weighs less, etc" Obviously he has high hopes that a N/A Ram Air intake is wayyyy more powerful than a Supercharger

I place $5 on the desk and tell him to go to YouTube.com and look up "Lightning vs. WS6" and tell me who wins.
I walked out the door $10 richer
Here's the vids which made him look like an idiot:

i dont know anybody with one, nor have i ever rode in one or anything, but i thought that the ws6 was strictly a suspension package. i didnt think it did much of anything for the performance. maybe a few horsies!!!
Hard to say, I had a 2000 Lightning and my friend had a 2002 ws6.
It was quick, but both of us didn't leave our cars stock for long.
I ran 13.8 stock, I think he ran well into the 13's. So I may bet on the TA if they can drive.

Motor Trend:
"For this test, we chose a 2000 Trans Am powered by a 5.7-liter (346 cubic inches, for you traditionalists) LS1 V-8 engine backed by a Borg-Warner six-speed manual transmission. It was fitted with the WS6 Ram Air performance package, consisting of functional front-end air dams leading to an underhood ram air system (a longtime Pontiac musclecar element), dual exhaust outlets, power steering cooler, Hurst shifter, P275/40ZR17 Goodyear F1 GS tires, and, new for 2000, 17x9.0-inch twisted-design polished-aluminum wheels. The WS6 mods boost horsepower and torque peaks to 320 and 345, respectively, up from the stock Trans Am's 305 and 320 figures.
On the dragstrip, our Trans Am ripped 0-60 mph in 5.0 seconds and cleaned up the quarter mile in 13.5 seconds at 107.4 mph. (Funny how it beat the same-engined, similarly weighted Camaro SS by 0.2 second and 1.8 mph.)"

Have not tried it , but maybe if you had put WS6 vs Lightning the outcome might have been different.

hmm...maybe. is miami really home of the L's? ive rolled through there once or twice and i dont believe i've seen any. maybe it is only nighttime they come out? hmm....
I owned a WS.6 and it's a pretty close race. The WS.6 will win most of the time. The best track pass I had was 13.4. I still love the L's though. I guess I'm a rare breed of a GM car/Ford truck guy.
Stock L should lose to stock WS6. Hell a few have gone 12.99 stock with DR's and a factory freak. A L should respond better to mods though being forced induction. Also, a truck will need less structure work etc to maintain the power then a car.
I've owned both a 2000 WS6 and a 1999 Lightning. Both bought stock and both ended up being low 12 second vehicles before I sold them. A couple things don't really add up about the original post though.
1. There is no such thing as a WS6 Firebird. There is a Trans Am WS6 and a very rare Formula WS6, but no straight WS6 Firebird.
2. Comparing a V6 Firebird to a Lightning is a joke and anyone who would take that bet, if that is what you were betting on, needs to jump out the window and save us all from their stupidity.
My 2000 WS6 with just an intake and catback exhaust 6spd ran a 12.98 in nearly stock form. It was always a bit of a factory freak car, but there are plenty out there that do the same thing.
I raced a friend of mine in his 2000 Lightning w/ intake, single blade TB, 3lb lower pulley, 90mm MAF, suspension work, ladder bars, etc. We did it from a dig and from about a 50 punch. The lightning stayed within a half car of the WS6 until about 60-70mph and then lost in a hurry. The weight and lack of aerodynamics of the Lightning really show at that speed and above.
Now of course this all depends on the driver and how competant they are behind the wheel, but all things the same, the TransAm WS6 will win everytime.

I think a Lighting will take a V-6 firebird STOCK VS STOCK, a V-8 trans am that's another story once it starts hooking up
now you mod a lightning or add some spary it's game on and ru whatcha brung or go home
