NEW: Idea For More Boost!
Maybe this has been suggested.....
Some of my buddies who have blown late model f-bodies have seen an increase in boost by replacing rubber/plastic intake ducting with metal pieces.
Using that theory, wouldn't a solid aluminized tube connecting the t-body to the maf be worth a pound or two of boost? If it were built correctly this seems logical to me. I know the eaton's operate at almost max efficiency, but this would not spin the blower any faster.
Am I way off.....or would this be worth looking in to?

I know someone made a pipe like that and they where talking about selling them, but I don't think that would give you nearly 1lb of boost. nothing at all in my opinion. the mustang guys switch over to a larger pipe most likely that can suck more air then the smaller plastic one's provided. thats the reason they get more boost most likely. I highly doubt that by have a metal pipe you'll pick up that much boost. Maybe, and just maybe .05 pounds.

It helps more with the centrifigul blowers because the boosted pressure is sent through the intake tube.

"there is no boost until after the blower" Technically, that is true BUT,what people fail to realize is that a blower is naturally aspirated,yes that is what I said...naturally aspirated.It, like a nat asp engine does suck in air and is more efficient when the path of air BEFORE it is smother and or larger(the straw theory).Therefor what ever you can do to either smooth out that path of air WILL increase the boost ie: larger air filter and contoured,smoothed intake tube and even extrude honing the lower intake manifold.All of these will increase the boost of the S/C WITHOUT any adverse affects to the rotors of the Eaton. This is why I prefer doing this over the lower pulley.In a few words ...Boost with blower longevity.IMHO.

I agree with the straw theory to a certain extent. However, if you have a straw the size of a 4inch pipe and if you could fit your mouth around it, there wouldn't be a restriction. I can't prove the theory, nor will I try.
Therefore, if we were to remove the intake tube and somehow pull air directly into the throttle body I don't believe we would see a major gain in boost over a high flow filter and MAF.

Not to add any more to this debate.. but..
I remember somone saying that while running their L..( On the dyno ) they saw the rubber boot colapsing while under full boost.. I believe it was this observation that sparked the intrest in a solid intake pipe..

If you could bolt your maf directly onto your T.B., you would definitely see a gain in boost.And a solid pipe between those 2 components would show improvement.This is what they call "power pipes" in the Mustang world.The bigger the straw the better(in this case) Only ergonomics and space would limit the size, although any diameter larger than the T.B. would probably not net any significant improvements.I would kill for one of these power tubes for the L! Comon BaBolt.Do your thing!
You wouldn't want to put the mass air that close anyway. the farther away and outside of the vehicle, the better the reading from the MAF. I higly doubt that a rubber boot with any kind of good filter kit is going to collapse on us. that boot is pretty damn solid.

If I am not mistaken someone made a metal intake pipe out of a 4" mandrel bent 45 degree elbow.. They just shaped one end to an oval shape so it would fit the throttle body..
as for the boot colapsing..I think it is possible.. but it might not be..
Either way..a metal pipe would be a nice piece..

How many people have taken off the rubber boot between the Throttle Body and the Mass Air? If you had you'd find HUGE RIBS that interupt the air flow, to a large extent, by cavatating the air being sucked in rather then a smooth piece that would greatly enhance the air flow passage.
Whether MORE Boost is achieved by a smoother air passage or not it certainly CAN'T HURT!!!

I will be one of the first to but BaBolts new Power Pipe, when it becomes available,-If nothing more then to keep the F$$$ing oil from being trapped in those ribs from the pvc system!!

Over a year ago when I first started reading this board, somebody said they where going to make and sell a Carbon Fiber intake pipe.
I havent seen it show up yet, but it would be the COOOOLEST. In more ways than one.
