Question Tire slipping on rim?

I was just reading over at BON in the 01 Cobra thread where some guys have been checking and finding some slipping of the tires on the wheels. They have been seeing vibrations in the car after doing hard launches.

Has anybody been checking for this on thier Lightnings? With the torque our trucks have, I can't believe we are not having the problem if they are. Could this be part of the vibration problems some people are feeling.

Just a thought, Brian

It does happen to me. The tires slip just enough to need balancing. I checked once and my tires had moved an inch over the weekend.

The only way you could stop it that I know of would be to screw the rim to the tire, and I don't think that would work with our rims. So I guess the only solution would be to not launch so hard, LOL. like thats going to happen.

Question

RedVoodoo and I noticed the same thing at Woodburn a couple weekends ago. We found rubber 'slivers' between the rim and tire after our respective runs. To top it off, I do now notice a vibration of the truck as I drive on down the normally smooth freeway. Hmm... so how much does a balancing cost nowadays?

If your F1s are moving 1" from launchimg hard. Just Launch in REVERSE to re-set them back an 1" LOL.
That's why I use MT ET Streets, at the track, and don't launch (race) on the street!!

Didn't somebody do that a year or so ago? Staged to deep and had to back up, only to forget the truck was in reverse when the light came on.

DON'T LAUGH!! There is nothing scarier then sitting in the water box at your track waiting for the guy ahead of you to stage then launch. Only to see him stage Too Far -BACK-UP - FORGET to put it back in 1st gear-See the back up lights STILL ON-Lights Come Down-Wham he launches in reverse STRAIGHT TOWARDS YOU!!!
It's happened TWICE to me in a year. NOW, I just wait back far enough to see the guy Stage- Lights come down and Launch- then I enter the water box.
GEE'S-It's Scary if it happens to you. Luckily they got their cars stopped in time.
Just lucky, I guess.

Hmmm....interesting. I don't think so, but I guess that could be what I was attributing to what I call grip and slip. Guess I'll have to mark my wheels/tires. Don't seem to need balancing though, and don't use much air, so as I say, I don't think so.

Most of the 01 Cobra's seeing the problems are running the new polished wheels.
Could be they do not have the grip of the std Cobra wheel or the L wheels.

Didn't someone post a while back about machininf the wheel lip and installing a bead lock on the L rim? Don't know the cost but it sure would look better than using screws.
