Talking Ya Ya...Whatever - My First Car Was A....

Datsun 510 Wagon, took my license in it. 4 speed, with the patented 8" throw (side-to-side that is). Was a hand-me-down. Eventually sold it to the junk yard for $35.00.

Then bought my aunt's 74 Duster. Slant six, auto, buckets, AM radio, and crank open sun roof. Also had the knurliest black rims with silver center hubcaps. Purchased for $700.00 sold two years later for $400.00 with coolant on the dipstick and oil on the bottom of the hood.

1978 Plymouth Horizon. 1.9L with a big 2 bbl (by comparison). automatic, no a/c,ps, or pb. was my grandparents car. wonderful in-cab echo, vinyl seats to cook your keister in the summer. steering wheel the size of a full sized truck. hatchback for da ladiez

It would run with brand new (at the time) gen 1 Escort GT's all day long.

Nothing like making a *****-out run on hilly, twisty rural roads towards Ohio to by beer underage on Sunday... scared the ***** out of many a passenger... reminds me of a Jerry Reid song.....

I think that is when I earned my screen name or something.

Thumbs up

Actually it was a 1937 Olds 2dr Sedan bought for $15.00 with a blown rear end @ 15 years old. Put in a junk yard rear drove it for 2 years saved enough money working after school and weekends to buy a 1957 Chevrolet Convertable (repoed from bank for $440.00). Sold the 57' 2 years later for $2000.00 and joined the Navy.
Boy I wish I had the 57' today ($25,000+) at auctions.

I'm a young'un, so my first was a 1991 Ford Bronco. I bought her used (stock) and went from there.

'83 Chevy Citation X-11

My late father bought this with the intention of me buying it 2 yrs later in '85 when I got my license. He passed away before I turned 16...but my mom kept the car, I paid her a decent sum and I drove that thing everywhere.

To this day I have yet to own a car that I put more miles on...85+k. (got rid of it when I graduated college in '90 and bought my '90 LX).

The car didn't give me a lot of trouble like many of the X-cars did. I had to replace the carb at 70k miles, but other than that it ran great...which is amazing since I didn't know squat about cars. I knew you should change the oil, rotate tires, and put gas in it. I think it had the original brakes and belts when I sold it.

I toted lawn equipment in the hatch each and every summer when I'd mow lawns to make money. The car was maroon in color with maroon interior. When I was a soph. in college I had the exterior painted silver. Looked pretty cool, although I'm sure I'd consider it a "ricer" if I saw it today.

my first was a fastback mustang (dont know what year). dad and i were supposed to fix it up so i could learn to drive.. i didn't care about working on it or driving at the time, so he sold it. i never drove it.

my second car (1989) was a '78 nova with a 307 V8 (i think) and 26000 original miles. dont know what moved faster, the speedometer or the gas guage.

1978 White AMC Gremlin, 258ci straight 6. Had bias-ply tires on it, and would spinout if I took a corner at anything over 5 mph. I hated that POS, it almost killed many times. Was known as "Grim Reaper" cause everyone thought it was going to kill me.

I'm a youngin' but still started with a crappy car anyway.

1988(?) Dodge Colt E - complete vinyl interior, no A/C, no power steering, AM only radio.

went from that to a

1992 Mercury Topaz GS - the car was cursed, had $8000 of warranty repair done to it. was named "Christine" after Stephen King's movie. Swear that car tried to kill me.

went from that to a

1983 Dodge Ram 150 BVC Custom Conversion - 318 v8, wall to wall **** carpet, couch/bed w/fridge. *w00t* was dubbed the "**** wagon" in college.

It got totaled in Feb 2000 (RIP). Bought my Bolt.
