Thumbs down Cracked block!

OK, I found out today I have a cracked block, they are trying to sell me a new L,(imagine that!) I did a search, didn't find much on cracked blocks, anyone else find anything or remember any posts along these lines? BTW, I had an intercooler leak for about 2.5 months before it was fixed 2 weeks ago!

Symptoms were horrible noises eminating from engine bay at startup-hard knocking. Typical engine failure type noises.

Angry

Hard to speculate, but may have spun a bearing and put the rod through the block. If not through the block enough impact to crack the block. This sounds to me like the motor was cold when you started it thats when this kind of stuff usually happens. You will find out when they yank it out. Sorry to here this. Good luck. Bob.

Angry

OK, now it's REALLY getting deep! I stopped by to get some stuff out of the truck and they told me there were no L motors available, they would have to take all the parts out of the old engine and install them into the new block. What a crock! Even if there were no L motors available, you can't put parts from a damaged motor into a fresh block. They were just trying to pressure me into buying a 01, they have 2 on the lot. This is where I hit them with: "that salesman never called me when I was on the waiting list in 99, why should he treat me any better now?" ... uh
I also told them I wanted a new blower due to recirculation, the service rep just said "we can only give you what Ford will give us"
I'm so pissed I could spit!
I've been nice up till now, time to take off the gloves!
The mechanic told me low compression on #2 & #6, he said when he pulls the engine, he wouldn't be suprised to see the front half of the engine fall off! It won't of course, the crank will still hold it together!
They had better find an engine soon.

The dealer is yanking you. there is no way they talked to ford about a cracked block and ford said to fix it with parts. we can all see how inexpensive these complete motors actually are even with middleman mark ups. ford produces the motor and is making a huge profit on the middleman on these mod motors. when we see a complete motor with supercharger/ intercooler etc for the price of a decent blower alone in one of the racing catalogs, it's like a free engine. just as a basis, a few years ago, i had a truck with a tappett noise, the dealer i bought it from, tried to fix it twice, and said there was nothing more they or the factory could do , and i would have to live with the tapping. i brought it to another dealer, told them the story, they called the factory, and were told it would be easier and cheaper to install a complete engine w/ all accessories than to pay the dealer labor to diagnose the problems. i left that dealer 2 days later with a new engine

I've also have had about 1/2 dozen major warranty issues and maybe 4 minor ones with my G2.

I always try to be super nice to my service agent, no reason to **** that guy off. He can only help if that is he's on my side, right?

So how can you avoid getting into one these guys face when this type of **** happens?

For the last 15 years every time I turn in any car for any reason, I drop an assortment of spent shells in my cab, usually 9mm and 45 ACP. To have fun with them you have to put them all over the place but still hidden, like in the map holders, one in the ash tray, under the seat, and to top it off 2 laying next to the passenger side door in case it’s opened. No matter how many you lay around you’ll always be missing at least 2 of them when you get your truck back.

Funny, I've never have a warranty issue with any vehicle that I've turned in? Now that I think about it they have never even mentioned the chip or ram-air?

LOL, I love the spent casing idea. Dummy up a US Postal ID bag. Maybe an anger control order from court. I had a problem years back with an exhuast manifold replacement. Took it back 4 times in 2 weeks. The last time I took it in I had filing papers for small claims court on the passenger seat. Already had their name on them. How strange it got fixed correctly. Never a problem with it again.

Thanks Silver and BBQ,
But I've not started fighting yet. Does anyone have the address for Ford's customer relations in Dearborn? I've got a good letter composed.
