Question

Lisa
Can you look at the front lower suspension arm and tell us if the mounting is a slotted hole or not ?

If it is slotted, I am betting on the bolt moving, sooner rather than later.

95 saleen, no offense taken, I just wanted to vent my opinion of jac, and who really knows if that a$$ doesn't have any thing to do with that tiny washer or not, THINK ABOUT IT!!! If the people that are responsible to take care of that tiny washer are worring to much about there jobs (because of jac) to concentrate on that tiny washer then in reality jac does have something to do with that " umm adding a tiny washer"

Lisa,
Jack has nothing to do with the washers. I've been down to the dealer that I know will. They have an 01 in. We took the bolt out, just what? Need I say anymore! Just wait it will come! (CLUNK) Ford needs to change the tooling. Also I'm not worried about my job. Order here order there. I not making a mint here. Just trying to help out. I love this truck and most of the people here. I would have to love it with all of the problems that I have had. I'm waiting for the new lightning that has a lot more inprovements. Hope its not to far away. Maybe two to three years. ;-) My first love is my wife, then my bike. Hey, who is going to the world superbike race in July at Laguna Seca? Would love to meet some of you people!

Just my 2 cents

I was one of the very first to buy your fix for my 2000. Nice fix.

Just wondering though. On the 2001 you looked at was there ANY difference in the bolt or washer? I've heard reports that fords newest official fix is some new washer with teeth. Not the old star washer or lock washer fix but something new. Did you see any evidence of that?

Just curious.....

Ok, I had a little trouble understanding what you were trying to say. So did you say that the 2001's lower control arms are the same as the '99 & '00's? Or are you saying that the '01 had the fix? If you did say that the '01 is the same as the '99 & '00's then please tell me how I can get your fix.

Red Racer,
I saw no difference in the blot washer combo.

2001Bolt,
I observed a slot in the control arm. I think they are still going to move in time.
E-mail me at; jacksonherb@hotmail.com for info on the washers. Or just do a search here under fix for the clunk.

My 2001 has the New washers! No clunk!
I have it up on a hoist at a friends garage. I checked the washers to see and mine have the teeth to cut into the frame wax.

FYI!

Here is a pic of James' (OneRedTXBolt) Sharp 2001 Red Lightning. You can see the teeth arent cutting it.

Looks like someone at the factory was checking out the clunk bolt...
More pics here http://www.svtlightnings.com/svt/james/james_2001.htm We tried to get a shot of ythe slot but the washer appears to be covering it...

Does this mean James gets free Washers ?

Thumbs up

Thank you very much !
I wanted for so long some good sharp close-ups of the wheels and lights. I was a little scared after so many people said it looked bad, but no more. I like it. The new wheels certainly clear the brakes by a lot. Bigger discs and caliper will be easy.

action 911 is going to make a lot of washers soon...

So that answers that question. The 2001's still have the slot in the frame. And although Ford is using a newly designed washer with teeth they are still, or will over time, be slipping. If you own a 2001 or have one on order get a hold of action 911 and pick up a set of his washers. Still the ONLY permanent fix for the dreaded "Clunk".

Unless of course you live in Texas. Then you pull your new 2001 Lightning into "Goober's Blacksmith - Trailer Hitch - Tractor Repair" and let him have at it with a Lincoln arc welder.

Remember it not just the embarrassingly loud clunk. That's the least of your problems. If the bolt is moving, your control arm is moving. If your control arm is moving your truck is NOT staying in proper alignment. This results in very poor handling and accelerated tire wear. F1's are $250.00 a pop.

Question

This is for anyone that has removed the washer and nut. After looking at all of the evidence. I have came to the conclusion that the best fix is to Heli-Arc the washer to the lower control arm. Question, are all of the washer/nuts one piece or are they two separate pieces, (nut and washer) or one piece (nut and washer combined)?
