I doubt the durango can tow 7,300 lbs. just like the dakota's can haul 5000, and then all the sudden a recall comes and says the dakota RT piece of chit can only tow 2000lbs.

I can't see a mid sized SUV hauling more then a full size pickup. Somethings wrong their.

Well, I have driven a Durango, and they seem nice and torquey, geared for pulling. I have doubt about the 4.9 pulling 7300 lbs, but it might could be done.

However, there is

a) no excuse for the poor mileage a Durango gets

and

b) no way you could get lumber back from Home Depot faster in one than a Lightning.

I have the 5.9L and it can tow 7,300lbs - go check the Dodge website and see for yourself. I also can handle 6 additional passengers besides myself....how many can you fit in the "L" ??? TWO ??!!!

In addition, my GTP has blown away many an "L" already....their magazine numbers are very much incorrect - the 14.2 is more correct.

2000 GTP - all options
- 3.5" pulley upgrade
- Casper's TPSE

2000 Dodge Durango - 5.9L

So if someone is trying to race you on your way back from Home Depot, do you tell them to wait until you have fetched your GTP ?

It would be the smartest thing you've done, automotively speaking, in your life. The "L" is USELESS in the winter - light rear end, rear-whel drive, no traction. Yes, you could throw 100 bags of sand in the back, but do you really want to do that? With the GTP you get front-wheel drive and traction control - excellent winter-driving capabilities. You get a blown motor that allows the GP to run 14.4 bone-stock. Change the pulley (with a GP you can do that!) to 3.5" or even 3.4" and you have your 1/4 mile time to 13.95 or better. Eventually you could change the intake and exhaust for runs in the 13.3 - 13.5 range. Not bad for a 4-door grocery getter. And, the best thing of all, blow away those wanna-be racers in L's allday long!!!!

Cool

Step aside, Lightning Boys.
This looks like a job for Poor Man's Lightning!

Rated to tow 8300 lbs.
Think I might be a little faster then that Durango too...

You must have been badly humiliated by a L at some time to be resorting to such strange behaviour.

Check out the latest issue of MM&FF and look at JohnnyLightning's article. Are you sure you can beat that ?

Hmm..Wanna get into a pissing match about tow rating?? 96 F-250 Powerstroke 5 speed..8500lb(conservative), will smoke your little Durango from 55-100MPH, and will get about 1.5-2 times the mileage...Oh and if you wanna go head to head drag racing, let me go get the Lightning..I'll tell you one thing, it will out pull your little Durango(2wd vs 2wd)..

Oh and I've had 8 people in my Lightning..No make that 9..Three in the cab, and 6 in the back..Before you come on here thinking you are King $h!t you might wanna know your facts..I've driven my Lightning in 2 winters..All you need is tires..Never had an accident..So could you run that 13 on street tires?? I've seen a GTP run 12's with NOS but he was having TONS of traction problems even with Slicks..

Blacklight - the truth hurts, eh??? The L is useless in winter driving conditions. I was never humiliated by an L, in fact beat one the only time I raced against one from a standing start, to 70MPH. Don't even think about beating an LS1...stock...

Yes, but my law-breaking friend, you cannot LEGALLY drive with people in the bed. I guess I could have people sitting on my roof racks too, so what is your point?? From 55-100?? How about from a standing start? Your fat-a$$ truck will be left wayyyyyyy behind, so by 55MPH, all you'll see is my little taillights.

A bone stock GTP does not run the 1/4 in 14.4
You can verify that on the grand prix performance website. I'm sure their members have a little better knowledge on the subject than you senor troll...

GTP-

1998Nastruck is absolutely right! I have seen plenty of GTP's run at the track, and they are very lucky to break under 15s when modded.

Now for some evidence that is closer to home...My daily driver is a 98' reagl GS, same as your GTP mechanically, heh? As nice a car as I think that is, if you think the Buick or your GP can hang with a lightning, I'd say you have been standing to close to your incredibly intimidating rectangular dual exhaust and been breathing really deep.

Yo - 1UglyFord - lucky to break 15's when modded???? I think you had better open the garage door before you start up your overweight sorry excuse for a performance car...truck...whatever. The fumes are getting thick. I've seen it in the latest TRUCK TREND - the vaunted scary "L" goes 14.5 - WOW that's fast!!! hahahahahahaha
