Question Build date or VIN #

How long does it take for the dealer to get a build date or a VIN number for your truck? Every time I talk to my salesman about this he implies that im a moron for asking.

Thumbs down

My dealer too was an A$$hole, so another member helped me out with getting my VIN#. It's not that he can't get it, it's that he's too lazy. I'd cuss him out. That pisses me off when dealers act like that. Go over his head. From my understanding, once the order is sent in, and processed, you get a VIN#.

Question

Does the same go for build dates, and maybe an approximate date of delivery?

Go get your shotgun and ask him again...

It is a very simple and easy thing for him to do, he is just being a moron.

My dealer took 2 days after me placing the order to come back with a VIN and an estimated build date. Delivery is always around 3-4 weeks to BC.

I just gave him a call. He said, "They haven’t posted that information yet." He also said that he would give me a call as soon as he gets the information.

If this helps, I ordered on Jan 16,2001 and got a VIN on Jan 18, build date of Feb 26-Mar 5. (I guess it is a window for the start of the build, although it might be from start to finish). This means delivery in late March.

finally got the story on mine. I ordered Dec 1 and still don't have a build date. I've confirmed that the dealer actually put the order in, but Ford just hasn't asigned a build date or VIN yet.

Orders can sit in the order bank for a while before getting build dates.

Unfortunatly, I'm worried that those of us without build dates will have to wait for Job 2...

yikes

Well, I found out that I have my build date for the week of Feb. 26th. I hope that it gets changed to sooner. I'm not too happy about waiting until late March for something I ordered last year. For some reason, I want to blame my dealer for this. He deserves an *** kicking for not keeping in touch (AND I HOPE HE(YOU) READ THIS Mr. KELLY!!!!!!).

Marcus, I'm beginning to think that you just like to bitch. The truck you originally ordered arrives next week. I don't blame you for trying to save a few bucks, but then turn around a bitch about it, sheesh!

George, I'm kicking myself in the *** for this screw up. Sure I saved a couple $1000 but, **** I want my truck now. I can live without it though. But still, it's a screw up none the less. Still thank you for the help that you gave me. If there was anyway to take back my order I would (HINT HINT!), but I know better. I'll deal with my dealers crappy P.R. Skill, and the wait. I was just telling someone how nice your dealer (Jan Harmonson). Oh well, it'll be worth it, once I get my truck and beat you in a race!! Well, I will beat you if you ever stop modding your truck!!

Oh, and I got sidetracked by Marcus, I meant to respond to Skennett. Your dealer may not be able to give you a VIN # or build date at this point, so don't go off half ****ed. Some of you with ties to the factory like Jim Shaw may correct me if I'm wrong (I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken), but I don't think the VIN # gets assigned until the vehicle is actually scheduled for production. The dealer should get a weekly (or bi-weekly printout of your vehicle status, and can give you the VIN # once it gets a build date (actually week of). However, once he sends in your order, and it is accepted by Ford, within very short order he should receive a DORA (dealer order receipt acknowledgement). Demand a copy of your DORA. There is enough information on your DORA to track your vehicle, providing you know how to use it, but therein lies another tale.

I absolutely hate Ford right now. No offense to Black Lite but how the hell did he get a build date and I haven't yet? This truck has been on order since last year. Can someone please supply me with a number for Ford managment.
