LD's got something new!
LD,
How much difference did you notice in your shift points with the taller tire? Does the truck seem to pull as hard through the entire RPM range? Also do you run a chip that can be reprogrammed for shift point and the speedometer? Thanks for any info. Those tires really give your truck a more aggressive look. Looks good.

Perfect answer to the F1's, and great for the 4:10 gear on the street. I started to buy the same one's but were not available like the Comp TA's so went with the F1's again. But my next set will be the Nitto's.
Looking good! I know you will be please with the overall handling, and traction.
SeeYa Saturday?

Y2K Bolt-
I didn't notice a huge change in the shift points. I do notice a slight change in the off the line quickness. The LS1 I raced said that he didn't notice a difference off the line... (I've raced him before and after the change). He did notice that he couldn't catch or pull until we were past the 75-80 mph mark. Normally LS1's pull/catch me at approx. 65. There is still plenty of power to spin them from a dead stop, and still that impressive seat of the pants pull. I took a LS! driver for a ride last wek, and he coomented on the tremendous pulling power.
I do have a chip (PSP), but I hardly ever run it on. It is one of Sal's early burns, and seems to ping a little in performance mode on pump gas. When I put it on the track, I run octane booster or race gas to eliminate the ping.
I plan to install 4.10's next month(?), and I've calculated that my final ratio would be close to running a 3.97 gear with the stock tires. I plan on recalibrating the chip then.
1BADTK-
I always get you and 1BADFRD (1BADFORD?) confused... where are you guys meeting Sat? LSR? I need to get back in sync with HALO....
Drove some more in the rain the other day... The traction... wet AND dry is AWESOME! Much softer ride, but it is at least equal, if not better handling!!! (I still haven't pushed it handling wise.....)

Can someone smarter than me (boy that won't be hard to find) tell me why I would not want to use this tire. I have stock gears, PSP full meal deal. How much will it change the speedo? How will it effect my E.T.? This sound too good to be true!!!There has to be a down side. I don't consider the Z rating something I need. I have been to 150, and didn't think it was any big deal! 0-120 is a different story. Can anyone tell me what their complete cost was (buying from Tire Rack) for the F1's installed?
Thanks, Jerry
Thanks, Jerry
Thanks, LD, Those tires should definitely be the ticket with the 4.10 gear. No doubt they are improving traction off the line. I still love the look they have on your truck the way they fill up the wheel welds. Can you say NASTRUCK.. Awsome.
Jerry-
There ARE TWO downsides...
1) There is a little less pull in the holeshot... but it is MINIMAL, and I can still "compete" with the LS1's. From a roll, I bet there is an advantage due to less wheel spin, due to the larger diameter, but more because of better traction.
2) The speedo IS off. There is a website... I don't remeber where, that let's you calculate the speedo error based on wheel size. I checked error at 70, and I recall I would be actually traveling 76.XX... So, I just figure that I'm 10% off, showing slow.
Under normal driving conditions, I usually push the speed limit by 8-9 mph. So now, I just set it to the speed limit, and keep it there. I can tell by the other traffic that I AM speeding though.
Your PSP chip can be calibrated by Sal, (and/or most chip tuners I believe), to compensate for shift points and speedo correction.
I'll be adding 4.10's soon, so I'm waiting 'til then to adjust for everything at once.
Thanx Y2K!
Lightning Boy-
That sounds FUN! I'll try to be there! Be careful though... I may surprise you and make it this time!!!!

LD: Is your gear calculation correct? It's based on tire diameter right?
So w/4.10: 28.4 / 31.2 * 4.10 = 3.73 gears
Stock gears: 28.4 / 31.2 * 3.55 = 3.23 gears

LD:
Good move. For me, this is the solution I have been looking for over a long period of time. As I have posted many times before, I am an old style rodder, brought up on big & littles and steelie wheels with Ford caps.
While I won't 86 the L wheels, I think I am going to trot over to the local tire guy across the center and begin with your tires on the rear and see how it looks and leave the fronts alone for the moment.
I am such a wus, I hardly ever spin the tires and do not autocross or anything of that sort anymore and at 12K miles I still have 80% tread left on all four (3 rotate and balances so far) and I hate to store a set of perfectly good tires. So, I will store 2 and check it out.

Bill-
I did the same as you... but I only had a little tread left on the front two.
I started out with them only on the rear, but the size change was pronounced enough that I thought it looked funny. It looked like I didn't have enough money for the fronts and rears, so I caved and bought the fronts too.
This all started with a tread separation issue on one of the front tires. They still had a little tread left, but not enough to be covered by Goodyears warranty.
Older hot rodders would probably get a kick out of the small front, large rear combo though...
