What tires are those?

LightningDammit
Is that second tank 1/3 empty or 2/3' s full? Lightning Bob |
DING DING DING!!!! Nathan wins! New tires...
I REALLY wanted something a little W I D E R than the stock F1's... My rims look like hell from 1 or 2 curbs bumps... I couldn't find anything wider, without going to a 16 or 17 inch rim. I just couldn't afford tires and rims.... Then, right as I was about to buy the BFG TA Comps, the guy at Discount tire tells me about a new Nitto... The Extreme Force. The closest size was a 305/55. They are taller by a little over 2". I figure when I get my 4.10's I'll be running the equivalent of 3.97... the R E A L selling point tho is the PRICE!!! $187.00 per tire! WHOOP!!!! Here's a pic of the tread pattern http://www.zing.com/picture/p8a7d4b0...a/ff360ce3.jpg And a pic comparing the heights of the stock tire on the left and the Nitto on the right. http://www.zing.com/picture/pf7e2a69...5/ff360d09.jpg [This message has been edited by LightningDammitt (edited 11-10-2000).] |
Hey LD,
Are the Nitto's ZR rated and is the load rating the same 1850 lbs ea.? Dan |
how about a side shot so we can see the new tires?
|
LightningDammitt,
I had a '94 Mustang GT before my F-150 and replcaed the factory Goodyear's with Nitto 245/45 ZR 17's and loved them! They were the only Z rated tire with a 40,000 mile warranty. The Goodyear tires were $210 per tire and the Nitto's were $170. The tread pattern seemed to hold the road better in the rain, too. I had almost 20,000 on them when I sold the car and thye still looked like new. P.S. Looks great! |
Lightning Bob-
Didn't mean to ignore you... just trying to figure out the question... I'm the optimist, so I'll guess 2/3 Full! video man- The Nittos are load rated for 2833 #'s... They are wear rated @ 420, which SHOULD mean that I SHOULD get approx. 33% more wear from them compared to the F1's... They have a 11/32" tread depth... I'm not sure what the tread depth is on the F1's... The Nittos are AA traction rated... This is the highest possible rating, so I'd guess that they are equal to or better than the F1's. Now the bad news... They are only "V" rated... Oh well... How often do you go 149+ for 30 minutes or more? BulldogSVT- I assume that you want a side view of the stock vs Nitto's? I'll try to get back to you tomorrow... BlueFlareside- Thanx for the compliment! I was worried they might look too tall.... They do fill up those fender wells tho! I've had them for about a week now. The day I got them, it was raining. I was plowing thru 3-4" deep puddles @ 40-50 mph with no hydro-planing. On dry pavement, I have considerably more trouble getting them to spin, but I'm not sure how much the larger diameter plays into that... I raced a LS1 a few nights ago... Talked to the guy afterwards... Turns out I had raced w/ him before. He noticed that I didn't get the same 1 1/2 truck length jump in the hole shot... (usual for me against the LS1's). The LS1's normally start reeling me in around 55-60 mph, and are passing me at 70-75... This time I held him off to 90-95! I find this PARTICULARLY impressive, since my speedo is off by about 10%. That would put us in the 100 mph range!!!!! |
Who says size doesn't matter. I like.

BulldogSVT-

With the taller tire, have you noticed any tire roll in the corners at higher speeds? Has the turn radius decreased any? Been picking about putting larger tires on, as is, hate having to make sharp turns. Would like to go to a tire shop and they would have a cross cut of each tire, but like that'd ever happen. Seen some nice skins out there, but leary of the roll with a 4600 lb truck. https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif

Moses-
Friends that have driven with me before and after say that I tend to push the corners harder than I did before the new shooz... I would say that the sidewalls probably flex about the same amount... the Nittos seem to have a stiffer sidewall. Also, I run the pressure a little higher in the Nittos (35 psi). I ran the F1s at 28-30, because the L suspension is a little stiff for me... I was spoiled by a softer Dodge Ram suspension for two years. In spite of the higher pressure, the Nittos feel softer due to the taller sidewall. |
