Young guys drive lightings to!!!!!!!
I am 22 (almost over the hill, turning 23 in March) and whenever I am clean shaven, which was everyday until someone put redpeppers in my soup 8 months ago.
Now that I 'wear' a gottee and long sideburns (short hair but long down face) I get a little more respect.
Get a conceal carry permit. That usually gets some respect at the dealership. They tend to treat you better for some reason.

I personally think it is cool if any young person works hard enough to be able to pay for their own Lightning regardless of whether they live at home or not. That would have been beyond my wildest dreams when I was 20 or so. Keep on truckin young uns.
At 19, new to the Lightning madness, with fellows I met at the California Speed Meet, where a lot of people from this board showed up, I think they were great. Very nice, and always willing to scare the ***** out of you, burning out across an intersection (right Alphadoggy?)
I plan to keep truckin', hot roddin' and racing until the day I die, and if the kid isn't a little *****, he gets my respect. EVEN IF HE LIVES AT HOME WITH MOMMY AND DADDY! Because I do! But my college is down the street, so I works out great!------------------

I have all the respect for a younger person, who works hard and can afford a nice vehical.I just wish they made something like a Lightning when I was young. I started out with a $500.00 69Bronco with a plow on it. Plowed a lot of driveways that winter, worked a part time job during the school year, and a full time job in the summer. Saved up enough mony to buy myself a 78 F250 when I was 20 years old.
My parents could have bought me a brand new truck if they wanted to, but I am happy they made work for for my toys. When I went away to college, my parents sold their house and moved into a two bedroom condo, so when I got home, I had to find a appartment.
What I can't stand is parents who buy their kids a expensive car, when the kids total it , they buy them another, and another. So for all you younger people who work hard and can afford a L, I say right on and enjoy.

lightning00n93cobra,
I too am in the same situation as you. I am 22, turning 23 in April. After serving in the military for 4 years I got out and got an unbelievable job in the IT field as a Network Engineer. Aren't you in this field as well? I have 3 brand new cars in my driveway and the neighbors hate me I think. If they give you a dirty look just smile, and leave them in the dust. Drop me a line if you want: jacowen@us.ibm.com

As one of the old fahrts who is paying for cars for a young fahrt, and not liking it, I can just say more power to you --- if you can pay the freight, you can haul in the truck!!!!! My hat is off to you

Its not so much the older people, but the middle aged people that are more or less jealous of what I got, But you know what Thats bull. I put in about 60 to 70 hours a week and I do work for my father, but any of you who work for your dad know how much harder it is cause you not only have to try and be better then everyone else at your job, but you have to do it putting up with everybodies bull who thinks you got a free ride your whole life. Hey my father worked his a$$ off his whole life to provide the best conditions possible and I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Certain people just have a richer lifestyle. I'm sure there's 18 year old kids out there who have 100,000 dollar cars and stuff like that, but there parents are probaly worth more money then 99% of us here. My father always tells me that you can have anything in life if you want it bad enough, and I've lived by that for my whole life and right now I'm living great. I still live at home, but my truck is all paid for and I pay my insurance. The only reason I still live at home is because I help out my mother taking care of the house cause there's no one else. I could move out if I really had to, but I don't and to be honest with you Its not bad living at home. I got lots of left over money for the truck and all I have to do is Take care of the house maitnence. Not a bad deal. Just my .02

I'm with you Don C. My parents could have bought me one too, but they made me get my *** out and earn the money to buy it myself. No help with insurance either. Important life lessons are taught there and i'm so happy they did that for me. I was reading somewhere, here or modernmusclecar.net, where some 16 year old kid got a small box with a viper alarm remote in it and was told the other end was in the garage. Turns out this kid goes into the garage and sitting there is a brand new Saleen S351. This was no doubt his Christmas gift for "working his *** off". I just don't think kids will ever have a real appreciation or respect for anything if it's just given to them.....just MHO
WOW a brand new s351 for christmas. I got a little model of my truck and a display case for it. My dad tried as hard as he could to not let me buy my truck, cause he new at 18 I would kill myself with that power. A s351 is like wow. Saw a 99 in a mag today with 7K on it and the guy wanted 66,000.
I'm 19 now, and got my Lightning the day I turned 18..Online I haven't really found it hard to find respect, and in real life neither..Just know what you are talking about and show people you aren't some dumb little momma's boy who knows nothing, and people will start to respect you.

RT and OO93, I know exactly what you are talking about. I am 16 and getting an 01 Lightning next month when it arrives. This is my Christmas and birthday "present" from my mother. Now Ill I have worked my *** off for this truck. Like RT I work both for my father and on my own. And believe me, my step-father is the biggest perfectionist and it pushes me to my limits at times. There are teens out there that do work for what they get. I helped my father wash his boat every night he came back in from fishing, this was when I was 6 years old and usually at 2 am. After he passed away when I was 8 my step father came along, and believe me I've worked my *** off. In the 8 years he's been my father I have learned how to do carpentry, masonry, electrical, roofing, painting, plumbing and so much more. You can basicaly say I gave up my childhood to help him out. I never once said no to him. Now I have a body of a 40 year old and a new truck on the way to show for my work. And yes I paid for some of the truck and a lot of my other money was used to pay bills. Don't get me wrong, the majority of teens driving nice cars recieved them as nothing more as a gift, but there is a small minority of us that truely earn what we are given. No disrespect is meant to anyone.
I think its hilarious that most of the "young" people posting here feel like they have something to prove. Whatever. Be confident in your manhood. If you bought your vehicle with your money, then great. Why do you have to tell everyone?
I, for one, don't understand why any of the older people don't shake the hand of a younger person who has the same taste in vehicles.
To me its all about hot-rodding and having a passion for going fast. I started the game when I was 22 (and yes, I still have the car that began it all for me).
But, for every one of you younger guys who is "cool", there are plenty that are totally disrespectful towards anyone over 25. What a crock. I have had 16-18 yr old guys over to my house/garage so I can help them swap a set of heads onto their late model Mustangs. I have literally "taught" some of these guys what it takes to go fast (not 13-sec fast, either). We have a mutual respect for each other. I don't care so much where they live or where they get their money...but its how we treat each other as _people_.
Yeah, I might "learn something from them"...and they might run into a 32 yr old "old guy" who carries a 600rwhp stick and would put an absolute whoopin' on anything they own! It works both ways. And yes, I go out of my way to blow the doors off "punks" who think their vehicle is fast...if they're acting like "punks".
If you cop an attitude, you're liable to get one "back at ya".
