Thumbs up Pick-Up Checklist

I've been trying to compose a check list of everything that y'all have had problems with on this board. This way, I know what to look for when I get my truck from the dealership I don't have to make a million trips back and forth trying to get the bugs out. Any thing y'all have is appreciated.

Here is i've come up with so far:

Belt Size and/or part #(for rear belt)
Hose clamps attached
Rail spray (or paint defects in general)
Scratches (on front bumper esp)
Cracked or damaged fog lights
Rubber under rear fender (no tire *******)

Like I said, if anyone can add to my list, feel free.

Cool

DUCK01,

It may not seem like much, but I had the most ANNOYING 'squeek' in my dashboard, (passenger side, upper panel). It took three attempts for them to fix it. I also found a rubber 'air barrier' completely blocking the intercooler radiator on the back side. The barrier is supposted to be positioned between the two radiators. Take a look @ that when you check the lower surface of the air dam for carrier damage.

Later, Jake...

P.S. Make sure the intercooler resevoir is COMPLETELY full, it will go down some when air gets worked out of the system.
Sorry for the long post.

Metallic-
That is a GREAT list of the problems L owners have been facing. It is great ammo to use against persistent service guys. The best list i've seen so far!

Duck

Check the passengers doors ability to close when drivers door is closed, Mine has to be slammed. Also check the alignment, take a test drive before you sign and be sure it tracks straight and the wheel is straight when on straight road. My wheel was 2-3 degrees to the right.

According to Ford when all vehicles are taken off the line the driver who parks them beats the hell out of it which would account for the loss of the rubber ******* from the rear. ( They say it is to stress test it )

I didnt have any of the other problems but like you looked for them.
Good Luck.

Silver 2000-

If that's the case, do you have any idea how I can get a job moving the L's from the line to the parking lot?

Thanks for the tip redlight. I will have to test out the control arms after I pick up the truck because there is no where to try the truck out around the dealership (in downtown Houston). It just scuks b/c I am about 2 to 2.5 hours away from my dealer. WE NEED AN SVT DEALERSHIP AROUND COLLEGE STATION!!!! Oh well, just another excuse to road trip in my L.

DUCK01, I would think that something like control arms and any other generic, potentail repairs could be fixed at any Ford or even Lincoln/Mercury dealer.

Now, probably something like the supercharger most likely should be fixed or serviced by an SVT trained mechanic.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I just don't know how well a non-SVT dealership would treat you, or how they would feel about having to repair a truck that you didn't purchase from them. I guess Ford is paying them to do the repairs, so it shouldn't matter, but it still makes me uneasy.

For the belt problem:
I just got my 2000L back. Besides many hours removing all the stuff to get to rear belt, they also had to remove pulleys from some of the accessories because when the belt was self destructing, it left junk behind pulleys. so, if you have the wrong belt (5 ribs instead of 8, you can't miss it) and it has any miles at all on the truck, check behind accessory pullies, or you may get squealing, even if they replace belt.

I have a little insight into this..

My truck broke down about an hour from here.. in no mans land indiana (way back when the fuel pump died). I called Ford (my truck is financed via ford credit) and told them the damn thing is dead on the side of the road and I was leaving it sit there with the keys in it. (I was a little mad, it only had 2200 miles on it). So if you use ford credit you get free towing, and I told them I wanted it towed back to MY SVT dealer which was 60 miles away. They stated they could not and do not do that, and that ANY ford service dept was authorized to work on any part of the vehicle. Well with it just being a fuel pump I didn't feel so bad, and I would have to say the dealer out in Indiana did a nice job, they even clean the truck up for me. I also noticed the speedo only had 1.2 miles on it from when I had dropped it off. Needless to say when I went to pick it up everyone came out to talk to me. They weren't an SVT dealer and they had never seen a lightning.. it was drool day at the that dealer.

Duck01, my biggest problem was having the wrong lower control arms on the truck. It appears the Lightning specific control arms where not installed at the factory. Sloppy quality control.

The problem was a "clunk" noise when making turns. Several times I got a loud "bang" noise. Also, the wrong lower control arms seemed to affect handling and steering causing excessive pulling and a darting sensation with a change in the pitch of the road. Also, using my test course that I found near the dealer, I could feel the "clunk" in my feet.

When you drive the truck, try some road courses or parking lots where you can make sharp turns, but not full turns, at speed on an uneven surface where the course/lot pitches from one point to another rather abruptly.

You probably want to wait after you take delivery to try all this out unless you live a long way from the Dealer.

Correct lower control arm part numbers are XL3Z-3078-BA and XL3Z-3079-BA. Replacement requires a four wheel alignment. Took three weeks to get parts.

Hopefully, you will not have to put up with this BS!
